I'm appalled. Kevin Milne is suggesting people get work done and then say they can't pay for it...

Dental work in this case but it could apply to anything. If this is an example of his moral compass then it seriously undermines the ethics of Fair Go.

As a small business owner just trying to make a living, I'm constantly being stung by such dishonest tactics.
The fact that Kevin Milne is actually promoting it as consumer advise simply confirms that he's a total wanker.
The poll attached to that article is a little more heartening.

I think you missed a bit
I'm not recommending this option, as your son may end up in worse difficulties than poor teeth, including court action and possibly a bad credit rating.
What he actually recomends
The magazine's consumer columnist recommends approaching the dentist to organise a scheduled payment option.

What he actually recomends
I think you missed this bit:
Another "controversial" option, he says, is to get the work done "before he tells the dentist he doesn't have the funds right now".
He's also advocating the dishonest approach.
"Recommending", or promoting it as an option, is semantics. He's a cunt.

You know what the media is like though, it may have just been an offhand comment, or it may not, either way, he only says it is an option that some will see as a good one. He isn't saying it is a good option himself.

I'm with you on this and willing to give the benefit of the doubt in what he said, he may have said whet some folks are doing is this but I would not recommend it and the media has published it completely differently.
I saw one major newspaper chain start printing oddly worded stories about my place of employment after the CEO said to paraphrase, ok guys we have spent enough time talking to you about what we are going to do about repairs, how about we have a week or tow so we can actually get on with the work, after Septembers quakes and he had been hounded nearly every working hour to give media statements, these were rather interesting stories, with little basis in fact and rather damaging to the appearance of the company.
The media will never let the truth sand in the way of a good story, and true investigative journalism in NZ, you might as well forget the idea, oh and adding in there seems to be no unbiased media.

He's not advocating it, he mentioned it and said it's not a good choice. Take a concrete pill.

This is a not a media twist - it's his own words in his own column in a Nag Rag.

Knowing what the media is like you spring to his defence with media quotes.
Sure, that make sense.

I went back and read that article again and while he is not "advocating" it, he is "promoting" it as an option!
I am afraid I have to side with the OP, it is a disgusting thing for him to do!
Kevin Milne is a :tugger: for doing that! IMO.

Just giving an example of how easy it is!
But lets not let things like facts get in the way of a good lynching

Well hey, feel free to share your facts. I'm sure you're a woman’s weekly subscriber, so what did he really say?
Because given his position (current or previous) on "fair" go and if this is true, surely it has to rank worse than "cheeky darky" (gosh I do hope I haven't offended anyone), pronouncing someone's name or heaven forbid telling a bunch of women with PMS that they have PMS (what the fuck was he thinking?).
At least in the latter 3 cases no one was encouraged to break the law, people simply chose to be offended.
I mean come on. You could do it this way - oh, but I wouldn't.
You've never used or heard that before?
Honestly, are you that naive that you actually take a comment such as that at face value? If so, you have led a very sheltered life.
It's called arse covering and is a very thin veil.

Bit slow on the uptake are we, don't worry, I don't think many people do their best work on a teusday arvo.
My 16 and pregnant magazine (for which I only subscribe to for the insightful articles; as I am neither 16, nor pregnant) explains that it is better to pass judgment only when the material is not largely open to interpretation, which is why I posted another interpretation. There was also a lovely article on vajazzling, but alas, I don't fit the criteria for that either.

Fair Go and its sibling Target are cunt shows.
There really aren't enough truely shitty business people out there so they sex shit up and spin it all to fuck.
It undermines the few stories where someone has been wronged.
They are self righteous bullies

Got a chipped molar that's starting to have a few throbs of painless action every so often.
Do they do HP's? :sunny:
Fair Go and its sibling Target are cunt shows.
I'm going to agree with that. Granted sometimes they do have something worth knowing, other times it's just shock value at someone elses household.

I wonder if I could fuel up my car/bike and then tell them I can't afford it and "try to come to an arrangement" of paying $5 a week

Dentistry is expensive, but then so is fixing your car or motorbike when you fuck the motor from lack of maintainence.
Most people don't grasp the concept of preventative care - flossing, brushing and regular dental check-ups.
What might be a small filling will turn into an extraction or root canal if ignored for a couple of years.
Of course there are people that can't afford it - there are also people who would spend the money on other things - which is fine, but don't lie and get the treatment done if you have no intention of paying.
I work in a dental surgery as a practice manager, I am open to working out payment options BEFORE treatment, not 6 months after I have been asking for payment!
If people really believe that not paying is okay, then dentists will be forced to ask for payment up front and how ridiculous is that!

Just like the dickwads at Consumer magazine who automatically bill your credit card in a years time for a new subscription.

Pics or it didn't happen.
EDIT - And before anyone does it, I don't mean pics of Kevin Milne.
Unless he partakes in a little vajazzling himself like.:blip:
