Now looks like a good time to be buying bits form overseas with the NZ$ being so high. What websites have people used, the good and bad, expecially for DL650 parts and accessories. www.twistedthrottle.com has most of the stuff I want at the moment but have never bought anything from them.

I bought some bits and pieces from GPSCity.com and they arrived in just five days from Las Vegas. The prices were cheaper than New Zealand and Australia by over $70! A cradle for a GPS unit was $7.95 v $32 NZD, so no wonder I went shopping overseas. I got the pieces required for $48 and change USD, including $10.99 shipping. The NZ Prices for RAM mounts and parts was over $125.00 and that had not included any shipping! A huge difference. How can that be justified then, huh?
I am still waiting for a Acerbis fuel tank from Los Angeles, this has taken over 15 days so far, no need to panic just yet...:shit:

If anyone wants a GPS cradle for a Garmin 60C series CSX. CX etc, let me know, they sent me two by mistake....Cheaper price by far, just $20 :)

I got myself a Touratech bash plate and even managed to put most of it on by myself, just by chance Leanne's Dad was here and Phreaky Phil even dropped in at just the right time, so in the end a bit of a team effort :-)

It is a cradle for the GPS, not the mount as well. You will still need the attachment for the RAM cradle. PM's enabled :)

Bought a new helmet from the States, Nolan N43 Trilogy $299(nz) landed. Used ebay to search then communicated directly with the bike shop from their site. I think I saved around $200 odd.

Then again I bought a hivis off Motomail and it was cheaper by $9.00.

Hi - He lives! Stormtrooper is back from "The Shire"! Must catch up soon bro:drinknsin

Anyway - I just got the fancy Flatslide carb for the DR from the states, total price was $523 NZ including shipping. I was pretty sure I would get pinged for GST and import fee's as it was over $400 NZ (but I have been lucky before with the pro circuit pipe)
I wasnt as lucky this time though and got pinged for GST on the total value plus an import fee of $25.30 and a $12 Biosecurity fee. Total was an extra $124.00:shit:
Still cheap for the carb though, even with the extras included - 1/2 NZ price I reckon.:shifty:

The trick is to spend less than $400 NZ apparently (about $370 US currently)- or if you can get the shop to do it (procycle dont:no:) get them to write a lower value on the customs ticket on the outside of the package:shifty:

C'mon spend up, get the mighty KLR on (and off) the road again. Once this snow dissapears and the nights warm up a bit I feel a camping trip coming up :soon:

It is $400NZ... the shiping cost is included..
GST is charged from zero..not just on the amount
over $400..

Heres what I do...
I import alot of guns/part etc..
where possable have the order broken up
& shiped a week apart... but keep in mine you
will incure 2 shiping costs..do the numbers well
it may end up cheaper to pay GST on one order...
If you fined something yer want..but the seller
won't/dosn't ship overseas...
let me know..i can give you a link to independent
exsporter that will ship almost anything...

When I bought my safari tank back from oz in my luggage I was relieved to read that GST is only applicable if the total amount of goods in your luggage exceeds $700.
I have asked for prices from overseas vendors & most of them have a general disclaimer that they 'will not misrepresent total costs on the invoice or declarations so don't ask.'

Unfortunately big ticket items shipped straight from the vendor will prob be pinged for GSt so I now allow for that in my pricing.

Risky business.
I tried a Shoei on in Spain, which was ostensibly the same size as my helmet bought in NZ. It was way too small.

Yes, it is risky even though i tried the shoei on in a nz store it might not be from the north america market. Guess i will just have to do the research, maybe a local shop near me imports them from shoei in north america (as opposed to asia or europe).

Have you got that new tank fitted up yet?

Yes. I got it done Saturday. It was straight forward apart from the metal brace that joins the lobes. Because the tank needed flexing, I didn't have enough hands to apply the bolt. Luckily the courier arrived, grabbed him and it was done and dusted. The thing is, I emptied a full tank into the bike, 15 litres and then put another 10 in. Either it was dropping out the end or the volume is not US Gallons but European gallons which would make it a 25 litre tank...I will see, but because Acerbis is Italy, it would explain the volume. Not 19 litres aferall?

GoPro ball and bar mount is here too. I will have it mounted on the bar with the Vio on the helmet

Yeah it's 23 litres according to Acerbis: http://www.acerbis.it/images/cat/pdf/hi/17_fueltanks.pdf

Bonus, that's a fair bit of extra distance it'll get you.

Well I squeezed over 25 litres to the top, too much actually because the cap was sprung, when it screwed in it overflowed slightly. So..24 and a bit @ 19-20 Km/l equals a sore arse! :)

I've used twisted throttle before a couple of times, good guys, quick shipping. Most packages from overseas take 5-10 days to arrive.
