View Full Version : Unwanted km?

Hola,

So i have been thinking about all the people who use their Km reading to judge when to fuel up, and then set it back to 0. That's adding on alot of K's that would devalue the bike even more. Does anybody do that or am i just having obscure musings?

I have a fuel gauge so i don't bother with it, and sorry meant the trip meter it's been a long day at work, but i have known some people who reset their trip meter therefore adding x amount of k's. does that make more sense or should i get some sleep?

I have a honda, their tech is still in the stoneage, so I have to use my trip,

but that doesnt add any Km's... you turn the little dial goes from 0000 to 9999 ...

so you put on it on 0000 then ride 220km fill up and set it back to 0000, I dont see how that add's km

Taz
27th July 2011, 17:02
Nope. Still not making sense SingingChief. Do you believe that everytime you reset the trip meter that those km's have to go somewhere and where they go is to your odometer?

I can take a photo of mine and show you,

there are two counters, mine has one at the top which is almost 50,000 then one below it, the one at the top is my odo reading, the one under it is my trip meter, when turning the trip meter the odo reading doesnt change.

The Singing Chef
27th July 2011, 17:08
Yea i know what it looks like, i was under the belief that once it is linked with the total reading. Guess not, question answered.

The trip meter has nothing at all to do with the odometer. Completely separate units which have no effect at all on each other.

Yes. Your thinking followed an obtuse tangent for sure. Creative though.

Reminds me of the time when I had an animated discussion with Mrs Oakie about the fuel in reserve. "But if you never go onto reserve doesn't that fuel go stale?" she insisted. Huh? It took a couple of minutes of minutes to realise she thought that reserve was actually a small reserve tank in the tank.

You are trying awfully hard to make motorcycling much more difficult than it is.

It's just two wheels, brakes, a throttle, and an idiot twisting the grip. Try to stay with the programme.

Tsk - you mean the nut that connects the seat to the handlebars.

No Cheffie. If you don't use the trip meter the bike does less k's. Easy.

I've ridden three bikes or trikes with reverse gear now - they were all actuated by a switch on the handlebars :-)

Maybe a Trailer Boyz is the answer:

It's discussions like this one that allows us to combine our collective knowledge.

There are two, often unheard of, ways to rewind the odometer.

-Reset the trip meter to zero at each fill as you do. BUT the rider faces backwards while twisting his knob

Or

- get the tyres fitted with the directional arrows facing rearward i.e. fitted backwards

I use my eyes - you know those round things in your face.... thats how I look and see what level the gas is in my tank when I take the cap off. Kinda like the way you look where you put the gas nozzle when you fill it...

Don't forget to refill the headlight fluid when you put the nitrogen into your tyres. Also, a tweak by replacing the powerband you have with a red one will increase hp.

Since you're on this improvement streak, you can save more weight by drilling holes into your swing arm!

Yeah what a cock!

Harder than it sounds on the highway, trick is to swap the key from the ignition to the fuel cap without the steering lock coming on.

Colour is actually unimportant ... after many tests ... it was found you can have MOST colours. But the power band must be worn on the right hand.

Fuel consumption can be improved by fitting a rev counter off a bigger bike ... (it wont rev so high then)

I found replacing the black one with a smaller yellow one works alot better at long hours with constant work,
for some reason black ones just dont do anything.

The trip meter and odometer are separate meters. The trip meters has zero impact on the odometer.
