I know this has nothing to do with bikes But I have just bought a 1988 Mitsubishi L300 (High kms) for transporting bikes pretty much and I think its a bit of a dud.

When I got it I drove it a good 40km as I met him hald way and he had already driven that much and wasnt hot. I drove the other 40km and it was fine, Not hot and no problems

I took it down to post shop to change ownership and back to find when I got to the carpark It leaked water (ALOT). Then after a slow drive home It got damn hot, I got home and it Was making a loud hissing noise and was obviously f***ing hot and no water.

I havent checked hoses etc yet but dont think its them for some reason.

If it had a leak why wouldnt it all leak out before I got there (while I was moving). The rate it was coming out at would have emptied radiator by the time I had got there easily.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS?

All help will be appreciated

If it is leaking a lot, take a look where the leak is coming from, makes it a hell of a lot easier to diagnose.

First guess is a fucked radiator cap.

Second, look at replacement thermostat.

(This is assuming the water's not "leaking" anywhere visible, hoses, water pump, etc)

If all those check out. Head gasket or cracked head.

Sorry to tell ya this but your first problem is... It's a Mitsubishi, this leak is a first in an onslaught of problems.

that said, how hard is it leaking??? radiator leak stop may be a cheap easy fix. As bogan mentioned it's hard to diagnose without knowing more specifics.

Ill have a look tonight. All I noticed is that its further back than the radiator (closer to the gearbox)

I just want to fix so i can sell. Everyone has said it cos its a Mitsubishi. Will sell and pay more to get a Hiace or something more reliable and less kms.

Frost plug or a heater hose. Heater hose is relatively easy although a prick to get to on the vans.

Yeh the carb 4g63 they had was a POS, mine has been fine since I put the EFI version from a galant in it. Well, except for the fan falling off, but that was probably my fault.
