Hey KBr's thought I'd just check in and let everyone know that I'm back on the road!!
Haldanes in penrose today hooked me up with a sweet Honda Hornet 250! Exactly what I was looking for something good to commute on but with enough power to have some fun in a straight line and give me the shits in the twisty's!
WOOHOOO! Pretty happy with myself! Might have to look up the Hornet swarm and go introduce myself I think. Also me and Nzspokes will be coming to the next Thursday South Auckland ride if thats the correct name?
Anyway just a heads up! I'll see ya out there! HAH!
Mike! :scooter::woohoo::scooter::woohoo::scooter::woohoo :

Hah I'll get there, burnt my first tank of gas! Now just a question for those other Hornet 250 riders out there, how many k's to a tank do u get? And how far will reserve go?
I got 155k's and had to flick reserve did 30 more and filled back up 13liters....
Cheers!

seeing he just got it, I'm guessing it was mostly around suburbs riding, so it would have been low gear starting/stopping the whole way

Lol nah but have to admit i have been giving it a bit of stick being my new toy and all :p also the dealer "filled" the tank prior to purchase to who knows how much went in there.
Shes choco now so see how this tank goes, like i say i put 13 liters in which filled it to the brim these have a 16l tank dont they? That would be quite a big reserve.

Naw I live in Pukekohe and work in Manukau so mostly motorway and today cruised threw Pukekawa to see mum and threw Onewhero to Port Waikato where reserve kicked in and had to head back to Tuakau fior gas :p was fun!
Missed my riding dearly! So any other Hornet 250 riders care to let us know what sort of k's you get from a tank?
Thanks for you numbers Mikey!

My particular lil'ol'hornet gets 160km on the main before I have to flick to reserve for a top range of 240!
Mind you, if you are giving it the berries, I've had it flicked to reserve at 130! Though I have run out of gas around 220km once!
Riding conservatively ... 180km for a top range of 260km

Oh ok, so the 155km i got on this first tank isnt abnormally low thats cool that was my main concern that maybe something was wrong and the bike is more thirsty than it should be, the curiosity came from my FZR400 getting 350 from a tank (18l).

Wow so you almost used the entire tank! Thats awesome lol, so hey biggest question here for me is how many k's did you do on the reserve? What was your trip meter at when u put the 15.5ltr in?

I got bang on 200ks when i pulled into a gap in the fast lane to split the slow car in front of me and main tank ran dry LOL i was like WOAH quick pulled back into my slow lane to switch to reserve guy behind was giving me the glare... My bad
So yeah pretty happy with that just need to figure out how far reserve can go now! Might carry a tank of gas to test it :p

Beautiful bikes those hornets. My flatmate has one - I ride it all the time, he has twin carbon fibre pipes on it and it sounds absolutely insane (Makes me go fast :Police:). The handling is awesome, love that huge rear tyre. Kaiaua is an amazing ride also, love the twisties :Punk:

Good looking bike. Looks good in the silver. Anyone owned a 250 Hornet that has also owned a 250 Bandit? I have the Bandit and it goes like a cut cat. Just wanting a comparison if anyone has ridden both.

Really its down to your personal taste, the hornet has about 4 more HP, 2 more kW, 2 more NM max torque but is also weighs 6kg more than the bandit but this is due to the hornet having full size tyres 180 wide rear 130 wide front same size and some cases bigger than 600cc+ bikes where the bandit has the usual small 250 size tyres and the hornet having a bigger full tank making for more km per tank which is important because these bikes are thirsty! I personally think the hornets look better cleaner curves better shape tank and cool wide rear fairings with a pointy tail, all these are factors that helped my decision tho i have to honestly say i have never riden a bandit.
Both cool bikes and its a shame to see these old inline 4 250's out of production... a real shame.

Nice bike man! I like the blue! Hey ive heard autosol is great on metals to make them shine (never used it myself so if it ruins it dont blame me lol) just keep washing it and waxing it the shine will soon come ask some professional advice on shining the machinery i reckon! Also i notice on the pics that your rear axel adjustment is on its limit that usualy means either you got a nakerd sprocket or a nakerd chain or both you should get that look at man :msn-wink:

I wear a HJC about 6 years old lol i originally bought it for drag racing at meremere in my subaru legacy rs back when i was young dumb and full of cum, but yeah that cost me 200 at the time, my bday coming up and im asking friends and family to chip in for a new helmet and im looking at getting one of these!
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=403513789
They get 5/5 on sharp helmet safety review which most 500 - 600 dollar helmet dont even get so :niceone: to that!
