Does anyone else know about this?

I bought a kryptonite lock in 1986 and was impressed to see that it had a life-time guarantee.

Last year it was discovered that all tubular key locks are able to be picked by a bic pen in about 20 seconds. So Kryptonite are replacing all the tubular key locks that they ever sold.

I was notified the other day that my replacement was on its way. When I went to pick it up in Tauranga the guys at the bike shop knew about my replacement lock but not the reason behind the replacement. I suggested that they checked out this address: http://www.kryptonitelock.com/inetisscripts/abtinetis.exe/templateform@public?tn=urgent_update to get the full story.

Is the biking public in NZ aware of the replacement programme or am I the only Kiwi getting a new lock? That might be why Kryptonite initially suggested that I pick up my new lock from a shop in Sydney.

Cheers
Mike

Thanks for this.
We often Make disparaging remarks about how Americans will sue at the drop of a hat, but this is one of the advantages of the system.I wonder how likely an NZ company would be to replace such a huge number of products?

I looked at the claims part and saw a name I know. Ingersoll (and Rand I presume ??). They could probably afford to give a lock to every human on earth. They make or invest in everything. Big company......... :devil2: :weird:

If the form doesn't work then email them directly from their contact page. They've been pretty good at getting back to me with queries that I've had.

As far as I know, any lock with a tubular key, Badcat.

Oxford locks are also affected, although every time I've bailed up the Rep about it, I haven't managed to get an answer out of him. Will keep pestering him. http://www.oxprod.com

Come to think of it, the Kryptonite rep never said anything about it either, although last time I saw him it was the night before he left on a month long holiday in Europe, so I can't say I blame him. :)

So, what do i do?
Buy a new one - i'm assuming they'll all be 'new barrel system' by now?
