Hey is there anything we can do to stop the guys using loose stone chip on the roads and using the traffic to compact it. Pissing me off as it is usually on a corner and no signage before it. Lucky not come down yet but had a few close calls.:shit:

If you believe it is dangerous ... lay a complaint with the local police. And the local Council. They might do something a little quicker if plod comes round asking questions ... :yes:

But to actually stopping them do it ... :no:

There should be signage to at least warn of loose chip. If there isn't then you want to ring the Council or NZTA and tell them before someone does fall off.

If the road is unswept, ie there is loose chip, there SHOULD be warning signs - that's a stanadrd condition for roading contracts

So the contractor is in breach of contract

Give their head office a call and rark then up

But best to also to call your local authority, or NZTA for state highways.

They usually take that sort of safety issue pretty seriously

A call to your local or district council could/should see it cleaned up.
If you do nothing, nothing will get done.
We have a pot hole here on our street, a call was made and they came and fill it within a week...wrong hole, but at least they showed up.
Called and told them of the obvious mistake and they will be back.

...either that or be vigilant on the road.

EDIT: Well Well...the holes in our street have been filled.

simple as using a camera and a computer, it's one thing whining but with proper evidence directed to the right people they have to react as they know how far and wide the images of their job and it's dangers can go.
just be proffesional and polite and CC it to as many groups as you can think may help

Councils have been prosecuted for causing accidents in just this senario ...

The best thing to do is tell the council there is a problem and send them a copy of the court cases with the complaint ...

I dumped a bike twice in one morning hitting pea metal patches on the road exactly like that .. the council paid the repair bill for the bike and ever since made sure there were warning signs on the road ...

I recently encountered this on the last 30km or so of SH1 up to Cape Reinga. The paving was finished about 18 months ago and the road is still covered in dangerously loose chip.

Frankly they needn't have bothered paving it - at least if it was dirt and gravel we'd know to slow down.

That's the rule rather than the exception up here. Certain stretches of road seem to be repaired on an annual basis & the signs are taken away before the gravel goes. They seem to spend a lot of time repairing repairs too. Hence my choice of steed.
