bugjuice
7th July 2005, 13:15
Just to clarify.
Slow/medium pace ride - suitable for slow riders.
Ride down through Whitford, Maraetai, Kawakawa Bay then on to Kaiaua (Fish & Chips !!!) then ride back after.
Meeting place:
-BP on Chapel Rd (next to K-Mart) Its on the correct side of the road to go straight through to the Whitford rd roundabout. Instead of turning right at the lights for the Pak'n'Save carpark, go straight - 2nd set of lights go left.
-10:00 meeting depart 10:30. DON'T BE LATE.
-10th july 2005 Sunday!
You can see Botany shopping centre on your right hand side. As the road splits, bear left and that is "Chapel Road". Look for the BP, should be about 500m on the left.

If it rains, this ride is not going ahead.
If anything, PM me or contact me on 021-234 7744.

If Sam's keen would you mind her taking up the space on your pillion seat? She's a little person, only about 5'3 and weighs in at less than 50kg... I don't think you'd even notice she's there :)
Ohhh goody! Went on this ride with danb and another non-kb'r last weekend and the weekend before that.. keen :D

pm me when you've figured out what's happenin, and we'll sort out about how to meet up before hand.
I managed to convince the gf that riding was safe, and she trusted me all the way down to National Park and back, on the back of the bike, so I can't be that bad..

depends from where 'west' you're coming from (can't remember)..
If you want, while the rest ride on, I'lll split off at the city off ramp (just after the flyover), and meet up around 9.15 at the Placemakers on the triangle bit of that junction. Then we just jump on the southern and catch up (not goin quick, I'll instruct the leader to slow, or if there isn't too many, we can all stop), then we'll all cruise to the BP to meet the rest.
how does that sound?

nope. If you want to meet at Placemakers, ride the NW to the city. At the lights, turn left as if you're going onto the northern SH1. But, instead of going left over the bridge at the next lights, go straight. About 50m on is Placemakers. There's some car parking at the back there. Hold up there, and we'll meet you. From there, we turn around, and head to the Southern.
If you want to just head there and meet us at the BP instead (ignore the above then), then get onto the Southern and ride all the way down to the East Tamiki turn off (the one before the Mt Wellington turn off, with the big long exit) and keep left. You go down a smaller motorway. Ride that to the first set of traffic lights, then turn right. Keep on that road and ride it for about 10 minutes or so to Botany. Ride past Botany (and you should have Subway on your left as you ride past), and the road seems to bear left. Just after you go round to the left, the BP is right there on the left..
Hope that makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone!!

Oooeeer Sunday now :| I have gym from 8am... so ill probably be catching up to ya buggers on the way down... might be about 15 mins off the pace. (Beware of Ghost Rider tootling the horn trumpet melodiously while race past the opposing rider).
'Whitford, Maraetai' does this mean past pine harbour? I don't know the roads so well to get down to our destination BUT I know there are two ways.

no eta on return. At a guess, we'll be back in Auckland before 4 (kinda hope), but depends on how we head back too. When we stop, it'll be quicker to carry on and fly back up SH1. It'll be double the time it took to get there, to head back the same way home.. We can decide when we are done eating, and 2 groups can split if needs be, so anyone can go either way.

Last time we headed out that way, I got back to the North Shore at about 2:00. That was including Mr Skid having a puncture and quite a long lunch at Kaiaua. This was heading back up SH1. So for those that are under time constraint, the best would be to head back up SH1.
If I have the time in the morning, I will come along. I will meet you guys on the North Shore. I will have to be back by 12:30. :nono:

Almost right BJ .... :devil2:
The turn off before MT Welly is signposted "South Eastern Highway and Airport". Get off here, and as buggy sez, go to the end of the highway (it's basically a 2 lane motorway). Go right on to Ti Rakau Drive at the lights at the end of the highway, then stay on it for 10 mins or so AND MIND THE FRICKIN SPEED CAMERA ABOUT 2 MINS INTO IT - 60KPH - and continue on to the BP on your left.

lol those little mohawks are kewl... It also depends on your style of helmet because if there are any bits that stick out on the helmet (like vents) the sticky things don't stick... and all 4 need to stick to the helmet otherwise it might fly off...
Unfortunatly I've already agreed to wear mine, but you can get them from most bikes for $25. Red Baron sells them, last time I went in they had a nice neon green one and a blue one... I wanted a blue one but when I went to buy one they only had yellow :)
I've worn it a few times just commuting to work... certainly makes cagers notice you a few more... the best time was heading home over the bridge and a van with teenage school chicks in the back were waving at me and blowing kisses  LOL guess they couldn't see my face through the tinited visor and thought I was a guy LMAO not that I cared :devil2:

hahahaha yes trying to take off a mohawk while going on the motorway is quite hard.... so just stick it on with tape....
Also i found that it creates quite a bit of drag at "speed"
hmmm looks like it is turing out to be a good ride..

lol bus? You mean the van full of chicks? They were infront of me heading onto the bridge going towards the North Shore, I was behind them and they were all looking at me out the back window... and as you know what riding behind a van is like I changed into the lane next to the van as soon as I could and when I did that all the chicks in the 2 (or 3) rows of seats could now see me and they were all waving and blowing kisses ( hehe) and so I gave them a quick wave (so as to not burst thier bubble) and then took off grinning the rest of the way home... Sam was like "how was your ride home" my reply "yeah it was ok" lol :devil2:
yeah those mohawks are a bitch to remove on the motorway, tried once and it feels like you have to reach right back and try pull off the remaining sticky thingys without pulling your head back or to the side and all the while keeping control of the bike... it's a bit of a worry... tried to leave it and could feel it flapping away and was thinking "crap I paid $25 for it might as well try to save it" and made a second attempt at removing it... they do produce a "dragging" feeling at any speeds over 80kph... I'll do what you said and secure it on... then put some tape on it too :)
Hopefully the weather holds out for tomorrow... there's meant to be a few showers but nothing big...

depends from where 'west' you're coming from (can't remember)..
Ok meet at 9.15am at placemakers...
I will be riding really slow guys... still aint up to speed yet, and I don't want to overdo it too much....

ok, so we just keep cruisin down the motorway, and you'll catch up then? There's a good chance we could be miles ahead, just cos we're a minute from the motorway, where as you're a good few minutes off. If you leave as close to 9 as poss, and we'll be leaving after we've messed around a few minutes later, so might catch up. Kinda annoying tho, cos there's no way of knowing who made it in front..

fucken YEAH
awesome ride
I woke up around 10ish so had to gun it to botony, some friendly bikers told me youd left and told me the way to cleavdon. got to cleavdon. checked with the shell guy (very quaint movie scene) 'have you seen a hoard of bikers come past?' "oh arr yes they left not near 10 minutes ago methinks"
as I was heading down to maraitai I noticed my godsend. a bloddy yellow mohawk helmet. saved. so did a U'y and had absoulutley no luck catching them on the road but everyone was going through cleavdon apparently. Woot I thought, im back in the group. only to be dismayed at the fact that I was last ... again. sigh

Crashe said there wasn't though... everyone that was in the 'zxr' group was gone (left behind) except Gareth and myself. It was weird having a whole lot behind and infront and then the tail drops away...

:Punk: awsome ride. Was a bit slippery but what ya gonna do. Had great fun playing catchup. Got after letting everyone passed me and roo waited at the miranda turn off for like ages and ages cause i thought superdave was coming then we buggered off. Set a good pace and managed to catch the tailenders. So at the miranda onto SH2 turnoff i set about waiting for big dave.....and waited.........and waited. Finally another set of bikers came along and they said he was taking pics back there so i waited some more......... he never came. So i decided (even though i was about 10-15 mins behind) to try catch you lot through the hanua's.....
Probably went a bit faster than i should have but when i reached clevedon JSG said i had missed you lot by like 1 minute or so. So i waited around a bit and kittyhawk showed up. went over scenic drive .... then went back over and over again for the hell of it.... i noticed i wasn't getting good straight line traction. So after a bit of tyre inspection i saw that it had worn straight through to the steel belt...hmmmmm... must have been the ride to clevedon cause my bike kept leaving the ground on every bump   .
But yeh i had fun and will do it again soon...... well i will have a new rear tyer that will need scrubbing in  :Punk: :Punk:

Good turnout, counted 40 bikes at Botany.
Ride conditions were typical winterous over the hills - ie - crappish, and I was riding like a nana!
Good to see old and new faces, Death and Draco turned up as well.
Had to get back to AK quickish, hence I left you guys after we left Kaiaua and I buggered off back up the m/way - may be boring but its still the quickest way home (107k in 53 mins!)

Woohoo!!! Great to be back on the big rides. Loved this one. Fun twisty bits and heaps of cool bikers to hang out with. Glad I wasn't the only cruiser there this time too. Had a few spots that worried me a bit but never came close enough to a wreck to tighten the sphincter (sp) Crazy fun and great scenery. Left of from the group after fish&chips and took the 25 to the 2 then that all the way to Tauranga. Was a gorge about half way here that was fun to go through aswell. Sheer rock wall on the left and slow moving river to the right lots of fun turns. Back and shoulders are sore from the backpack and my neck hurts from fighting the wind on my helmet.
Stupid open face. Tis what I get for leaving my full in front of the heater to long.
Thanks to Bugjuice for the boots and hot choclate. Was a bit cold when I got up to Auckland. Mamma Crashe made me put on another pair of jeans and put a plastic bag under my jacket in the front. Worked a charm cause it kept me warm all the way here. Also thanks to SlashWylde for lunch, definatly a better f&c shop than the one in Hamilton lol.
Will post my pictures next week when I am back home since I am on my moms pc at the moment.

Nice ride today guys.....
Aff-man , Danb and I stayed back with unhingedlizard to help him load his broken down bike onto his ute -hope you get it sorted soon mate-
Then saw Phoenix and Kittyhawk cruise by
A few minutes later they probably must have recognised us as they turned back and came to join us.
Once UHL had his bike all tied down and was off - Aff-man, DanB, KittyHawk, Phoenix and I took off for a bit of a blat down Scenic Drive/Road....... enjoyed it so much we turned around and went straight back...... then turned back and returned doing three laps of some marvelous twisties..... I love those 25 corners......
I think we were all a bit high :weird: or something - cos there were a few - umm.. more than a few...Ghost Rider'ish moments in traffic - hehehe the best of which were 4 bikes drag racing in a single lane at a few traffic lights  .........bloody 600's kicked my :moon: .....and some enthusiastic lane splitting - all under full control mind you.
Then we all proceeded to McDonalds for a bit of a debrief and some burgers in Botany Shopping Center...... after which we went to kittyhawks place to check out 2 bikes she has hidden in her garage......Hey Kitty some lovely projects there-
Then returned home by 6:30 - great day atleast 600kms for me this weekend

That was a fun ride, despite getting lost in Botany, then losing Pixie somewhere. So it was sprint time over Twilight road to catch up at Clevedon.
It was impressive to see so many bikes at Kaiaua, I bet the takings were well up at the Chip shop.
I'm even more impressed by these Z6's, never once slid, even on those shaded corners where you go from dry to wet at speed.
T'was nice to meet other KB'ers who've just been disembodied posts till now.

was awesome to see so many bikes, and as tristan said - was awesome trailing in a line of 10+ bikes through the gorges up towards BD... i need to get a tank cam because that would have been awesome on video.
Favourite part was the little ZXR crew punching it out throught the twisties holding on to the bigger bikes...
Keystone... got tristan to follow you for a bit coz you take awesome lines for us medium paced people, just pisses me off you've got that low down torque to get out of the corners at decent speed without having to change gear - ya left me behind a couple of times there, but its always fun to ride with ya :2thumbsup

yeah the twisties were good fun...had a couple of bad lines that had me worried...but over all i think that we did well to hold the bigger boys!
It was a kick ass cruise...i had to turn around half way to Kaiaua to be back in Howick by 1pm, so i missed the rest of the ride...the ride back was alot faster tho due to the road drying out!

Favourite part was the little ZXR crew punching it out throught the twisties holding on to the bigger bikes...

Yeah that busa  mmmmmmmmm *wakes up again*
Was quite funny - while going through the gorge (where Big Dave was photographing) managed to go past the bus. Not for long :( next straight after the gorge this beautiful sounding behemoth goes right past me in a flash... darn it. :devil2:
Nice to see one in the flesh for longer than 2 seconds.
I'm sure I saw you going up the bottom of symonds st into town a couple of months ago as well!

Got a pic of your bike Qkchk at the petrol station at the begining of the ride but it came out all fuzzy and porly focused. Have to make sure I'm not moving next time.

Hey yaaaawl. Yeah shame Dave never got me a photo side on either :( BUT hey I'm not the only one that missed out on that privilege... only makes me more keen for the next run!!
I do remember lettin in a quacker at the start of the Gorge - figured he'd have more fun than me on those corners. Next time I might put hubby on the 'busa and I'll 'borrow' his gixer1000, then I can play in the twisties. I was a bit unsure of my front tyre in the wet conditions - had a minor tank-slap about a month ago on SH1 on a corner, so keeping my wits with me for now. It was only when I got home I bothered to check out the breed of tyres I was running (Only purchased the bike in May) To my surprise, who would put a Mich Pilot on the rear then a Brig Battlax on the front???? :weird:
As for the ride - great road (except the odd patch of green slime on the 'always damp' side of the road) great company and great time..... :)

And on that note Waylander - I have a few old full face helmets in the top cupboard - They'll be a bit big for you perhaps - but you can wear your cap under one.
If you work out how i get it to you you can have one.

Yea left it in front of the heater too long. The other helmets are my dads old ones and are too big on me. New helmet is gonna be one of the first things I buy though. Need a @#&*$ Job.
