Last time i was riding my bike bout 3 months ago, it overheated and stuffed the piston and cylinder.
Installed new piston and brand new cylinder new spark plug, but it will not start. Is it possibly the gas has gone bad and i need to put new gas in and clean carb?

Have you cleaned the carb/airfilter out?

After a couple of my rebuilds I had to kick it about 40 times to get them started. JT put me on to putting a couple drips of gas in thru the spark plug hole 1st. Last rebuild started in 2 kicks :2thumbsup

That gas should be ok, not old enough to be stale, some might disagree tho

Havnt cleaned out carb, air filter is clean. Have kicked prob 100 times. After 4 or 5 kicks it sort of fired then backfired, but since then hasnt fired. Will try putting gas down spark plug hole tommorow with fresh gas

Clean the carb, check the earth from the stator and coil etc. Good luck

Try roll starting it.

Too scared too as last 2 times i started it after a topend it revd like i had the throttle stuck open

If its doing that then something isn't right.

Does the throttle feel like its actually working correctly? Maybe the throttle slide is stuck open.

Giving the carb a clean even if it isn't the root cause of the problem is still a good idea. Especially if the bike has been sitting for a while.

Throttle works fine, it just does that for like 10 seconds after its has been started for the first time since a topend. Doesnt do it all the time. Have heard that could be an air leak. Anyway.... any more ideas on what this problem could be

Timing.
Fuel.
Air.
Spark.

That's all apart from compression.

Timing shouldnt have changed since i havent touched the stator etc. Spark plug is new. Cylinder and rings and piston brand new, should have good compression.
Must be fuel?!

I'll put money on fuel. Put fresh gas in it and it never hurts to clean the carb

Chucking old fuel out and new in has got to be a cheap way of testing your set-up

Can't really see 3month old fuel being the problem. Started quite a few 2strokes with fuel that haven't been run for well over 3months. Mrs bike sat for over a year and started after a couple kicks.

Plug might be new but you may have fouled it still. take it out get some wet and dry on it and some brake cleaner or something then crash start it. If it revs pull the clutch in.

I also dont think its the best idea to keep running it in the garage. To break a dirt bike in I'm a big fan of putting the engine under good load to seat/bed it in. They always run well if you do this I reckon.

Lay it on it's side with fuel tap open... best way to check fuel moving through system. Give the carby a good tap on the bowl (stuck float). When you had top off did you inadvertantly dislodge HT lead at either end? As others say, fuel, spark, air.

It turns out it wasnt getting spark because the connection to the computer was not clicked in properly. Shes all good now!

98% of the time its a ridiculously simple problem, :woohoo:
