It's still early days....but the progress Dave is making he'll be out before we know it.

An idea has been kicking around of giving him a home coming to remember which is...

Hire a Limo to pick up Dave, Andre & Sheila.
Get as many KBers as possible and escort them home.

Who's up for that?
Or any other ideas?

Not to say it is a bad idea but I can remeber the last thing I wanted when I got out of hospital after a close "encounter" I did not realy wanted to see people I just wanted to spend time with my family for a bit. Not that dave will feel the same but just something to think about maybe just check with his family.

I third the idea. He'll want rest and sleep. Ask family first.
If you really really want to do something. Then just keep it to an escort ride between hospital and his home.
The big party can happen next month or so.

I am sure that when Dave finally gets home he will want some peace and quiet................ BUTT I am positive he would get a HUGE kick out of us all on our bikes surrounding the limo for the trip!!! Another little reminder that he has a support group and we all really do give a shit about him.
Brilliant idea and I wouldn't miss it!!! Lets make it happen!!

I like the limo idea for Dave AND the family. They've all been through a hell of a lot and, taking nothing away from Dave, I think we'd be ok to support them both over the next little while.

Limo to pick them up, and something welcoming him home (like a DVD, chokkies, and a dozen beers)

?!?

I'll be in for $20 - but someone needs to PM me on how to pay.

If you're going to get dave an escort, you should be more discrete

What a fantastic idea VTwin!!! I'm so impressed and really happy at the amount of support shown here.

If the ride's at a suitable time, I'd quite like to tag along briefly. Might not ride on teh motorway yet though so I'd peel off early.

I'd like to think that if I was going home after a big smash - that a community of mates would escort me home. That's tops...he'll feel so much better knowing that everyone cares. Nothing like that to induce a person to get better! :) Yay for KB!!!

You know what I meant, the bike type of escort, not the silicon type. :p

Woah - I thought this was going to be secret. It'd be real cool if he didn't know. Perhaps you could delete this thread before Dave gets online, VTwin! Ummmm, (she says, trying to work out how to tell everyone when and where we meet, etc if there's no thread). I know - we could disguise it as a "ride" on a diff day, and everyone that posts that they're keen could be pm'd with the actual time and date. Up to you VTwin.

certainly not trying to put a dampener on the idea which I think is fantastic but my experience of trying to predict when someone is going to get out of hospital is that no one will say when until the last moment and then come back 5 minutes later and seem annoyed that you are still there taking up bed space. I am sure someone would notice 100 bikers loitering outside waiting

Good point. Maybe we'll just have to make it who ever can come at late notice, come, if that's all we can do eh. At least if someone warns the hosp staff in charge of Dave, they might be a bit more "prompt"/predictable.

Great ideas guys n gals.

There was a letter in the Hutt news last night from Andre and Sheila, mainly giving thanks to all who helped Dave such as the paramedics and hospital staff. KB got a mention for it's support also.

is this a happening thing, with daves leaving time not set in concrete do we wait outside hospital for a day?

Uncle B
13th July 2005, 18:32
Well this has come around faster than we thought. Andre & Sheila were only told today that their booting out Dave.
Limo is quite expensive at $200-$230 an hour, and not knowing when Dave is getting out and you know what the hospitals are like, it will probally be sometime late in the day.
So having a limo on standby for 4 odd hours is going to be costly.

I'm going to be on standby for the day to be an escort home for Dave. Going to park up on that road that comes off the top car park and connects up with Adelaide Road.

So those who are up for it thats what the plan is now.

Sorry the big grand home coming has gone a bit flat.

Any chance that you could send out a text when you get a leaving time?

I'll ride the bike to work tomorrow and Friday so I can join in.
