...a NZ internet forum to discuss & circulate news, pics, & info about...BOBBERS. News just in: the 'Rattlers' forum, which catered to several hundred members who like to modify their bikes into this kind of style, has just been shut down.
This leaves a huge hole for people like us to meet online & communicate. There's a whole heap of us!
So Im asking Kiwibiker here on this thread: will you start a section specifically for 'Bobbers' where we can meet online & communicate? If you dont wanna be so specific, maybe make it for 'Modified bikes' incl Cafe Racers, Bobbers, & Choppers.
I see you have a cruiser section but that's not really it.
If you do it, I'll encourage everyone to meet here, now that it's RIP Rattlers forum.
Whadda you think?

Great idea actually.
I Love cafe racers and bobbers.

this is what one of the Rattlers riders group said on facebook:
"...because the forum has the same name as the riders group, the group has been getting unfairly painted."
I gather that the Rattlers riders group, which is a small group of guys who originally formed an 'invite only' group, & also set up the website & forum, didnt like the way the forum reflected on them, in some way. They always made it very clear that the forum didnt necessarily reflect their views or tastes or even bike styles.
This is not the kind of narrow sort of section that Im asking the Kiwibiker forum to provide. Under the banner of 'customs' or 'modified' there is also, besides cafe racers, bobbers & choppers, the genres of streetfighters, trackers, & bratstyle.
There is a lot of this custom modifying going on around the place; heaps of people seem to want to convert a bike into a bobber or one of these other styles, so how about it Kiwibiker? How about a section for this?

Site Admin are always willing to consider new forum sections - provided that there is a confirmed need for it. If there's a steady increase in Modified Bikes threads and forum traffic, then I'm sure it will be looked at.

well here's hoping then.
At the moment there's no section for modified bikes tho.
I cant refer people to a section that doesn't exist, & they will always gather somewhere, so I guess there's an opportunity here if site admin are into it.
all those guys who were posting up their bike's mods will be wanting to post somewhere...

Modifications to your motorcycle is common as ... seats, fairing-blades, paint, brakes, exausts, tyres/wheels, engine components are popular mods to suit the individual owner/rider ... only the extent that varies ...
Often the selling point of a bike is the amount of aftermarket parts available to customise it ...

yep.
In this case Im talking specifically about the growing popularity of certain types of mods, & mods that make the bike into a certain category of bike, that doesn't necessarily fit into sport bike, tourer, cruiser, etc.

If they're the anti-social types who don't like to mix with those other dirty common bikers, then there's always the Social Group option in the interim...:innocent:
The BFTP (Blast from the Past) Group get together in their space - they're probably the most active Social Group.
From there, if there's a demonstrated need for another forum section, I guess it will be looked at.
In the meantime, I'll have a word with Admin.

I think it would need it's own category, for it to work.
My suggestion would be in the motorcycle subtypes. It's certainly missing from there.

I agree, I've seen a few threads worth reading (I mean proper modding with custom parts, rather than a slip-on muffler or two). But fuck trying to find where they got too now, I could find two of mine though ;)
+1 to the modded section idea.

yeah it tis a shame about the Rattlers forum, when you think that there were literally year's worth of build threads & pics & info on there, plus they had several hundred members with new ones joining all the time.
to me that does already show that there's a need for this category here on KB.
I certainly need somewhere to go online each day now, to get what was previously my Rattlers fix.

Way to shoot your own cause in the foot
At the very least you just made it really difficult for those who support the idea to get a Modified Bikes sub-forum set up.
Build it and they will come fails 9/10 times (that's a proven fact). Proven demand drives change on this site. So lots of people posting about Modified Bikes gets a sub-forum for Modified Bikes. People going to a different site for Modified Bikes doesn't.
It's that simple.

+1 but I think a Mods section would still be a great idea,
could range from the basic slip on muffler to a full on built from the ground up custom bobber.
There are alot of people who do little extras to their bike and would probably post them in a section like that, I personally havnt done too much to my own bike, I have only swapped the entire stock exhaust for a race one, added some LED accent lights, some air horns and that really about it in the way of customising cosmedicly, but I would post up photos and videos etc in a modifications section.
But as said before, it would need to have a high number of threads made and posts before a section could be considered.

I guess it isnt so much a cause as just a simple need; a group of people who used to have a forum & now dont. (or didnt). So just filling a need really.

I'm happy to set up a sub-forum for Modified Bikes but I need to see there is definite support, and I don't mean lots of people who say yeah that's a great idea and then don't post anything or take any further part.
If you (or someone else) really want this to happen then drum up support. Start a thread or two, get people behind setting it up and if enough people take an interest and keep on being interested (it's really important people stay interested in it) it'll happen.
Popular support does actually get some things done around here (not many but then this isn't a democracy).
