View Full Version : I pissed off a cager today

My usual commute to work this morning.
I negotiate something like 7 roundabouts on my way to work, I was at the last one. I am turning left. 99% of traffic approaching from my right are turning right and dont affect my ability to turn left. Today I saw a chick I work with approaching the roundabout from my left. I know she is going straight through, I was not creeping along, traffic was light today. So I simply zipped around the corner (I was in no danger), applied a reasonable amount of throttle and got on with it. I did check my mirrors to see what kind of gap I left, she was not LARGE in my mirror, so I was doubly sure everything was ok. 20 Metres later I am hauling into my work driveway, she is behind me. I am praking my bike in the designated place, and she zips past me and parks.
I did not even have my helmet off and she was growling at me, I should be more careful, I scared her apparently. I did not think I was doing anything wrong, infact I pride myself in not pissing car drivers off. I made an manouver that I was certain was safe for me, and pissed off a cage in the process.
If I can piss off a cage there is no hope for the gen pop of bikers :shit:

Cagers love lane splitting, especially when they are sitting still or crawling!!
Did tell her to harden up or is she hot and you didn't want to wreck your chances?

I have no doubt I wind a few up filtering up long side of them in the queues I meet on my way home, but they are always considerate of my need to get back in line approaching roundabouts and the like, I have never been refused entry back into the stream of crawling cars anyway.
I dont filter between traffic often, my commute does not require that, though I have done so when needs must.
What surprised me was the fact that I managed to piss someone off, when I took no risk to myself.

Do you reckon they love it when I crack the throttle when I'm right beside them?
I know I enjoy it.
The question is Mom. Is she hot?

I'm all for being considerate on the road, not going out of my way to piss drivers off when I'm riding blah blah blah, some people are just so precious! Did she feel better after having her rant at you?
(I think you need to be punished for being such a naughty scary rider, scaring poor sissy drivers like that). :spanking::msn-wink::eek:

So ... you are turning LEFT ...
SHE ... is approaching from your LEFT ... ( But both of you are going to the SAME place ... ???)
AND ... you scared HER ... ???
UNLESS ... your failing to INDICATE as you exited the roundabout, confused her as to your intentions ... and left her ... SCARED ... ???

I can't picture it especially with them both going the same place but Mom going left whilst the cager is going straight through from Mom's left. I'm stuck with the classic road code type image of a 4 way, double laned round about, Mom approaching from the bottom and this cager from the left entry to go straight through, but then how do they end up at the same place?
Mom, can you provide some road names so dumb arses like myself can google it and get a picture of what you are describing.

Thanks Maha. Now I see said the bland man. One cager that doesn't know the meaning of give way but does like her 'right' of way. The cager would be one of the ones that piss me off because they can't see that they would be out of the round about before the vehicle approaching from their right is anywhere near them.
Good skills Mom.

My guess is you scared her ... cage drivers don't realise how fast a bike can accelerate - and maybe she thought she was going to hit you ... cage drivers don't realise there is no risk to the bike rider .. her first reaction was probably a minor adrenalin reaction ... and you copped the coming down side of it ...
But shit - I do that sort of thing al the time .. the only differecne is that she knew you ..

Meh, give her the finger and don't acknowledge her further than that. If she wants to get uppity, a helmet to the side of the head will sort that out quick smart.

Isn't it more likely that as she already knew you, she just dislikes you and simply took the opportunity you gave her, to vent her displeasure at your existence?

I hate cars that move left like that - I never know what the fuck they are doing - are the pulling over to let me past? Are they pulling over to stop? Are the pulling over to sudden pull a U-Turn? (seen that happen)
Fucken cagers ...

Yeah, they often seem to be "panickers". They don't worry me too much when splitting in morning traffic, as they pretty much aren't going to be doing a U-turn, but it does make one wonder how they drive. EEEEK!!!! A bike!! yanks-the-wheel.
Often they were positioned about as good as anyone is, and could have stayed where they were.
Still, I often give 'em them a little "thanks" wave, as at least they showed they saw me.
(...just like that truck driver saw me - last week a long semi deliberately moved to the right, to about 1 inch off the white line; and I could see the driver in his big side mirror watching me split past. Trucks usually have given me more room (not in the car-driver panicked way) - which I also give a little wave for if I can.)

Many ''cagers'' as they are so disparigingly called are also motorcycle riders. Therefore they are not all tarred with the same brush.

Presuming a bit there Robert.
No.1 I don't call them cagers.
No.2 I pass probably 1000 cars so allow 2 to 4 hundred as possible bikers.

"I pissed off a cager today "
Part of the deal, innit?
When people ask me why I choose to ride one of those dangerous murdercycles, I always tell them I do it because "I like to blast around the countryside at foolhardy speeds, enraging motorists and frightening livestock and little children."
They usually back away at that point for some reason...:shifty:

I think he was playing but just a little dangerously
