Hi,
I normally ride off road but have the opportunity to go out on a semi adventure ride next tuesday.
I'm riding his Dr650 and he is borrowing a klr650 so was thinking of doing some semi technical stuff in the north of Auckland.
I would like to do the Tasman access to muriwai but am unsure of if you can get onto muriwai beach and ride down to Wilsons road or Rimmers road? or even off and the south end of muriwai by the creek?
I had heard of some "paper roads" up in Dairy flat. Or possibly up into the back of puhoi or waiwera?
Any suggestions within an hour or so of these areas would be awesome. Don't mind getting dirty either
Thanks in advance
Nick

Been 20 yrs since I have done much riding around that area but mount auckland at glorrit and back across to the back of puhoi was always good fun.

I think Wilson's Road is the northern most public access to the beach (and is bloody good fun) Highly recommended.
There are a couple of good paper roads out the back of riverhead (Boathouse Hill Road and Chatham Road), will be near impassable at this time of year.
Also a goodie up the back of Kaukapakapa (Alphine Road).
I could probably be convinced (workload dependent) to come out for a ride with you if you wanted a guide.
Most of the back roads into Puhoi are good value.

Had a bit of a look at that Chatham rd this Arvo on my road bike. How bad does it get? And how long is it across to peak rd? Was just a bit slippery and I only went about 1km down it from the riverhead end. Looks fun but says no exit on the sign.
Might just go have a looksie at that alphine rd and see where it goes.

That no exit sign is just for cars and guys on road bikes.
Depends on how much moisture there is, did you get to the bottom of the hill? Once it flattens out it can get a bit messy.

not stuck, just parking for dramatic effect
Alpine road can be tricky, but depends on which end you approach from, that I shall leave to chance.
