Route is ≈1,007km via: (* denotes digital pic required)
Rimutakas - Masterton - Waipawa - Patangata* - Middle/School Rd* - Waiouru* - Taumarunui - Whangamomona* - Parrot ‘n Jigger

To guarantee a Year Bar, entry must be in by 25/10/11

Badges & Certificates awarded on sighting Check-Point evidence at completion of the ride.

As an informal ride, you and your bike are your responsibility to ensure both are capable of completing the course. There is no recovery vehicle organised.
A register of riders will be kept to ensure everyone returns.

The ride will go ahead rain, hail or shine….probably....or pending the Wed/Thurs forecast.

Enquiries & Registrations – PM or email me

This should be a pleasant wee pootle this year, especially for any that haven’t experienced the delights of riding the Gentle Annie & Forgotten World Highway…..on the same day!

We have made a change this year to charge a $15 entry fee (non-refundable donation) and make the badge &/or year bars included. This came about after last year and we were left with a lot of year bars after the weather put a lot of riders off, resulting in not much money going to Muscular Dystrophy.

The $15 is required at time of registration please and we have to order the year bars, so these can’t be guaranteed for entries received after 25/10/11. Account details will be supplied on application.

As per previous years, Ride Instructions and a Briefing will be emailed the week before the event.

Why not? Gremlin did it last year. (Mind you, it was midway through his conditioning programme for the TT2000....which didn't work. I guess we should set a few flyers for him this year)

Huh? I left Friday night at 11pm ish (should have finished work early and had a nap, but I didn't). Got to the gas station at 6.30am, realised I'd bloody brought the wrong tinted visor and did the Capital Cruise. Back to Wellington, crashed at KoroJ's for the night (bed gratefully used) then back to Auckland on Sunday arvo, after having a yarn Sunday morning.

Weekend done :niceone:

Should be a starter, but I'll confirm later. Currently dear Jessica is still 12,000km away in LA.

What is the best way to prepare for this?

Just got a new bike so unsure of the time I can spend in the saddle at a time.

I have from the 10-14 October off work, So I guess daily 500-600km rides should do it.

RIDING!! :ride::woohoo:

But yep, pretty much. Also depends how well you want to do it, per se. 1000km will be a struggle if you do 2-300km a day, and easy if you trot out for 1000km days.

Isn't it terrible... :innocent:

I was able to do Wellington to Hahei (650kms) pretty much non-stop (1 petrol stops) on the Hyosung, and was still functioning when I arrived at the other end.

Although 1000k is a bit different.

Gremlin

You also need to know what sort of functioning you could do.

As I said to someone just before their first Grand Challenge, you'll be surprised how tired you don't know you are. Asked him a simple maths question, scoffed at me. Afterwards, asked him a similar one, and he didn't even attempt to answer...

Points towards your capability of sound decision making... aka, safety.

Greetings all Capital Cruisers & Potential Capital Cruisers,

We’re now a month out from the ride and in the last month, I have managed to check the Gentle Annie out (3 times) to ensure it was safe for you to take on…….Well, actually, I only checked it out once, but then I couldn’t help myself so I had to follow that up with an out and return! It’s a rather pleasant ride to say the least. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t checked the Forgotten Highway since about April….but I’m sure that will be alright!

As at this morning, I have received payment for 17 registrations (includes 2 or 3 hardy pillions) and this morning I have sent reminders to those riders.

I have to order the year bars next Monday (24/10/11) so to be guaranteed a badge &/or year bar for your $15 donation to the MD cause, I need your confirmed registrations and payment by Monday. If you think you have registered &/or paid, but didn’t get a reminder, please check who you paid because I haven’t received it.

Thanks to Gary (from Kabul) and maybe Eugene (from Kalgoorlie) we are going international this year. So get your entries in to be a part of this global event (Become world famous in Ngaio…or Eketahuna ….or somewhere)

Cheers,

Hi Koroj,

Can't remember if I confirmed or not. (Ah well! no year bar for me if I didn't). Will still rock up on the day and pay. Can you ensure you have me in the list for the details as and when you roll them out.

Sorry, just back from the GC with pleasant 900Km pootle on Friday and 1600Km Saturday. I ordered a half dozen extra bars and will note you down.

Have you got that GPS yet.....and the programming? ...although this ride should be pretty straight forward....just like the last one was.

Ha, The last one was easy until you have to turn at a junction that was not mentioned on the route.

That one junction was enough to throw me and it went down hill from there. - LOL.

Yes, I've got the GPS. :bleh: Still haven't figured how to program it yet but hey, I work in IT. How hard can it be.

These will be emailed out to 'Registered Riders' tomorrow.

If you don't receive them....
It's because you haven't remembered to register, (A good clue is if you've paid) ....or
You're a new rider and haven't registered and therefore I don't have your contact details.

If you want the info you'll need to contact me asap.

My route is locked and loaded. Stops don't quite work out, so I have to stop twice, Waiouru and Wanganui (or further down the line, but can't quite make the finish if I get bad consumption).

Done and dusted, great trip with no problems. Didnt get too wet with very little rain
Worst bit i would have to say was from Taumarunui to the turn off to FH, bloody slippery with the wet road
Cowboyz was waiting in Dannivirke for us and came for a wee poodle. Got in about 8.00 which is the latest we have been in on a CK1000 but we wernt in a hurry and just enjoyed the ride
The Z1000SX is well and truly run in with 1120 kms on the clock now, looks like we may be buying the wife a new bike next year, she realy enjoyed riding it. The only coment she made that was negaitve was she got a lot more buffeted by the wind, nothing a larger sceen wont fix. Awesome bike that was nice and light, nimble and enspired her riding confidence, economical too.
We cant thank Brendan from AFC enough for loaning it to her, something we didnt expect but greatly appreciate, especialy because it is brand new. If you are looking for a great bike, go and see Brendon, rumour has it he has one that has just been run in...
Nice to meet you Gremlin, sorry i was in such a hurry, might try organie to finish in Welklington next year so we can come and tel;l a few lies at the after gathering
Another great CK1000 thanks Koro, look forward to next years one
