Well i was over in Rural NSW last week and had the chance to take a friends wifes 08 Dyna for a Sunday ride/thrash.
There was A Dr650,Fz1, Softail, Dyna(me) 2 Fatboys, and a Rocket 3
So a mixed Bunch....and an awesome bunch of Guys.
well what did i find.

First the Dyna gets along pretty good, 6 speed and all.(Quite abit different to my Buell) took a while to get used to a 4+K rev limit.

Secondly Softails can bounce off guard rails quite well..(35K corner and all)

Thirdly for all the money OZ is earning/bringing in, there secondary(and MAIN) roads are SHIT compared to NZ roads.I used to complain about NZ roads but seeing the state of OZ roads i can't now.........

I wondered why on the ride the guys were riding on the center line...didn't take long to find out. Half the road washed out, potholes to hell...........................
and then theres the dead Roo's and wombats to deal with.......

Fuck NZ roads(even the shit ones) are primo compared to OZZY.

pleasant revelation isn't it. NZ roads are fantastic compared to OZ and trust me QLD roads are every bit as bad as NSW roads.

NZ is motorcycling heaven in comparison. Sure there are some epic roads to be riden over there, one day I will do the Great Ocean road and the coastal ride from Melbourne to Canberra, but mile for mile value NZ wins hands down.

VIC secondary roads aren't any better nor are lesser roads right out in the boonies, actually some of them are down right dangerous

The people i was staying moved down from QLD recently, he said the QLD roads were in worse state than the Local NSW roads.....fuck they'd be bad.

I took both ways over the Blue Mountains out of Sydney, the Northern one would be a primo bike road if it wasn't for the damn 50-60-50-60-50-60 ETC speed limit most of the way.(would've been a 100k limit in NZ.)
Was told there was 26 speed limit changes on that route, and its the fastest way out...........................I scared the crap out of the missus when i shouted out SHIT when we finally got to a 100k zone, she thought we were gonna crash.

I worked in VIC and the roads there are pooooooo!!!! there's no camber to drain water when it rains, and once I got an Acco International sideways due to aquaplaning. Then there's the wildlife mentioned earlier :shit:
In my opinion we have the best roads in the world!! (if ya ride a sport bike that is) pity about the nanny state shit that goes with them though

The roads there don't melt and become impassable/deadly in the summer though.

They do carry more traffic, heavier vehicles and deteriorate faster around the cities I agree.

There are some primo roads there as well, a lot just like here. Just that they sometimes have hundreds of Km between them. They also have a lot more double yellow lines.

Strange to think, two weeks ago there was melting tar on some of the roads i rode over there.....

I haven't ridden a bike in Aus yet, but one day soon. I have, however, driven tin tops quite a lot and once you are off the main routes and outside the main cities the state of the roads become narrow, poorly maintained and shoddy. Some of the gravel/dirt roads are good only if you are after bumpy fun ride in a 4WD or a dirt bike.

On the whole our roads are more evenly maintained, although we suffer way too much tar melt in summer for our low temps!

That said, riding around and through Australia on an adventure touring bike is on my bucket list...

They must have changed in Vic. They are still Yellow up North and roads made from hotmix.
I've ridden a bit in NSW and Qld recently - it's the heavy vehicles take their toll.

When I was Linemarking in OZ in around 1997 we drove every back road in Victoria painting centreline and edgeline's. They were 80% straight roads except around the mountains (hills) and we never carried yellow paint. One road took us 4 days to paint centreline from Mt Gambia to Geelong, and you were lucky to see 50 decent corners the whole way. Boooooorriiiiiiiiiiinng!!!
The stop in Mortlake was awesome though, they had the annual buskers festival on and we got hammered!! :Punk:

Ive just spent the past 3 weeks in the Czech republic and ill agree.

Our roads are pristine. Id say 75% of the surfaces here are completely rooted, to travel a few hundred ks will take almost a whole day. You will pass thru 15 road works zones, which only 1 will be progressing ... Oh and dont forget to add an extra 100km to any trip you make just for detours - not joking.
But it adds to the experience right?
