I've never run into a problem like this, and I don't know where to begin diagnosing. The indicators on my bike don't start blinking fast enough.

They blink at a perfectly normal speed, but they take about 2 seconds to get going in the first place after you've pushed the switch. Both directions are exactly the same.

All four are perfectly ordinary non-LED bulbs, all of them work, bike has a healthy battery and whether it's running or not makes no difference. I don't know how a bike blinker works but it doesn't seem to be like a car one because disconnecting any one indicator makes no difference. Any ideas?

Indicate earlier?

Sorry, should've clarified: it only started doing this a couple of weeks ago. Prior to that they switched on within a second of using the button, they've just steadily gotten worse. I have to 'start' indicating several seconds before people even see me start to indicate.

Probably your flasher unit on the way out, should be a cheap fix

Just a wild guess here, but if all else checks out, maybe the flasher unit itself is on the blink...(to...err...coin a phrase like...)

All connections good? No oxidized bits anywhere?

EDIT: As xen has just beaten me to saying...:sunny:

The flasher unit is (almost) buggered then ... you will need to look at your wiring diagram to find it's location ... but usually it is up front in the headlight area.

It is usually a metal sealed cylinder ... 25mm long/wide (or thereabouts) ... with two wires (one in, one out) coming off it. It should click (in time with the flashing) when the indicators are ON

Before you go looking at the wiring and all that, try giving the indicator switch a spray with some CRC whilst moving it around, on and off. My VFR was doing this like crazy before i tried the CRC, i had to wait 22 seconds before my left indicator would turn on....

Thanks guys, I'll try the crc tonight.

I would never be that lucky.
If it was me, I would probably have needed a complete new wiring loom.
Engine rebuild and new paint job.
