Hoping someone can help me out with a little knowledge fitting a cigerette socket to a motorcycle ( and cost ) so can run a gps or other items of it if needed. Or is there a better way. Just woundering about it at the moment. also where would be a good place to put it on a naked bike. :soon: mayby.

I have fitted two to as many bikes....cost was just the price of the lighter socket,I ran them both stright from the battery Mainly used for airbed pumps and mini air compressors and only used ones that have a dust cover cap from super cheap and repco ......

but if you want them too run Gps etc and want too cut power when the bike is switched off hook it up too your ignition circuit

The easy way is buy connecting the power wire of the lighter socket into the bike's front brake live wire and connecting the socket earth wire too the frame, that way you can ensure power supply is cut when you turn the bike off

As for where on your Naked bike proberly next too your ignition best too just buy one, see where it looks best to you when not in use and with a lead inserted

If you're gonna run anything but a charger from the plug, you'll need a relay instead of just going off an existing circuit. (If you want it to turn off with the bike that is).

go to a marine shop and get a sealed one. If it's good for a boat it'll be good for a bike. Make sure it's fused as well.

You can make a relay, which powers many devices running off your battery, for around 30 bucks from jay car. or you can buy a kit ready to install for around 80 bucks. i made mine with very little electrical knowledge, just took my time and followed the instructions.

make it yourself link..........http://www.canyonchasers.net/shop/generic/relay.php

or buy one here..................http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/Fuseboxes/3_Circuit/3_circuit.html

i didnt know what a relay was when i started making mine.! i run power for radar detector, heated grips, and power for a screamer.

there is still power for 3 more items if need be, but i dont think i ll ever use them.

I usually get mine from pick -a-part for free by grabbing them out of a cars fuse box and inserting it in my pocket.

Simple as to wire up, most of them have a diagram on the side of them to show which contacts do what.

You'll have no trouble finding someone on here to help ya do it.

+1 on this link.

I did as the thread suggests and have a crop of available connections to hook all sorts of stuff into. I run heated grips, after market horn, ciggie socket for a mini compressor, GPS and Radar Detector off it. Works a treat.

And if I can make one up ANYBODY can make one up.

I bought a cigarette socket from Jaycar, was only a couple of dollars from memory, wired it up with a 12volt relay (also from Jaycar) through the ignition so that it turns off when I turn the bike off, and mounted it in my pillion seat compartment. All I use it for it my GPS which is mounted on my H-frame above the tank. Ran the power wire under the tank and seat, along with a stereo cable so I can plug my headphones into it as well for directions / music when on long hauls. Works great!

Not sure there's any need for a relay if you think what the socket is powering. Namely a high cost item that your not going to leave on the bike when you're away from it. Therefore you simply unplug it therefore removing power drain from battery. However if you want to recharge phone while you're away from bike you can loop charger cable under seat keeping phone secure and you don't need key in ignition to get power.

I've got a fusebox under the seat, which runs all the accessories, including a cigarette lighter on a 1-metre cord for running a GPS or tyre pump. The fusebox is a Blue Seas 5025 I bought from a marine shop, and is connected to the battery via a relay, turned on by the tail light.
