An old shop on Princes Street, ground floor is a bookshop. The fire came out the roof first.

I had staff working next door, one of them took this picture:

good cook up, isnt it suspicious that your in the fire prevention business and the building next to where your working goes on fire

Lol - actually not quite next door apparently - they were working in Chipmunks (next one along). The first they knew about it was when our own fire alarm went off. (Trying not to sound too defensive here)

Damn. That sux. I think I had mates that used to flat up there way back when. Was there a fire in a flat around there about 10 years ago? Is it just down from Lone Star? Hope everyone was OK too!

That entire little block is jinxed - there's been lots of fires, some bigger than others.

The building now housing Chipmunks used to be John Edmonds way back in the '70s, it was gutted by fire.

(As a side issue, John Edmonds became Carters - their new store in Andy Bay was gutted around five years ago).

Lonestar had a reasonably-sized fire during their fit-out.

A couple of years ago the Stapley building which housed the Dunedin School of Ballet (a local icon) was completely gutted. It remains a shell.

One person with minor injuries:

The Fire Service were awesome. Our newly-installed alarm system at Chipmunks got them there pretty fast, which gave our guys a real boost.
