What's the grip with this? A BP stn here has got a pump installed on their forecourt, dispensing Racing Fuel 100 octane & a sign up saying it is leaded & is NOT to be used on the road. $1.90 a litre. Shoud I try this in my RD50 bucket?

there's a gas station in Puke that sells 103 at $1.95. They told me it was 'off' AvGas.. Haven't tried it tho

I always fill up with avgas when I go to Puke. Don’t know if it makes any difference, but it certainly didn’t hurt. My sv650 wouldn't run on standard octane after I jetted it. Had to be at least 98 for it to run.

I don't think it would taste any better than any other petrol.

I used to put 50/50 octain/91 in my old sporty and it went like a power of shit. It even had nice light grey pipes.

I agree with Spank. Put that pump racegas in every time I go there. Smells the money. Great placebo effect - I feel like I'm going faster, and that's all that counts.

buck fifity down here........ the differance with 'race fuel' and 'avgas' is race fuel is expired avgas, no good for aircraft anymore but fine in the bike.
The servo i go to has avgas (mate fills it for them direct from airport) IMO it gives a smoother and more powerfull mid range, but hardley worth the extra cost on the road.

Some machines develop a flat spot running 100, I (like skid) ran a 50/50 mix of 100 and 91 you'll need to see what suits your bike... dont mix with 96 because its octane fluxuates more than 91.(AV gas is 100 octane on the button)

You should notice the power will peak alot higher, so unless your nuts out flapping in the wind... all you'll do is foul the plugs.

I have never run AV in a 2stroke... but I have tried running ethinol (sp?) it was fast... but not for long it ran too hot. :devil2:

For a bucket racer, id say have a go... you'll need every ounce you can get
Good luck

That's where you need Castrol M in the petroil

avgas has real strict quiality control, so what dagerous says, prob sounds spot on

i thought that ethanol burnt colder than petrol?

Actually if it was hot it MUST have been jetted lean. Methanol in a 2-stroke is magic as it cools the crankcases nicely due to latent heat of evaporation. I've used Castrol MSSR in Methanol in a 2-stroke but that was years ago.

Getting back to the original 100 octane in the 2-stroke thing - to get any real advantage you need to raise the compression LOTS. My 100cc Honda is over 15:1 and it barks (but isn't a dog, OK). It would last about 5 seconds on 96/91.

we put meth in a scooter once, bloody thing wouldnt go slower that 10kph.
I tried avgas striaght from the pumps at param when i was training there. You need to sign a note to say your not using it on the road. Put it in a 1994 GSXR400 and got no difference what so ever. I would imagine that if your bike was tuned to it it would work well, but a nice set of pipes would probably work better.

I understand that different fuel lines are required to run an engine on an alcahol for an extended period of time with any amount of reliability?

Give me the extra 45c/liter and I'll fill your bike and won't tell you the RON,and you won't know the difference :motu:

Try JetA1, might need a Y2K or sim tho...
Just read about a turbo diesel sports bike in a mag, cant rember the mag... maby AMCN?

Yeah. You can get stuff that is petrol proof OR Alcahol proof but not both. generally.

Just arrived in CH-CH the last couple of weeks, been using it, seems[maybe in my mind] to run smoother and have a bit more power. Can some one tell me how a higher octane makes your bike run cleaner, so they claim?

Methnol and and ethanol are different fuels, well enthanol is not a recommended fuel... it burns too early (on the upstroke) and blows holes in pistons, maybe I should better use the word "HOT" next time

Please do not use your mind use a dyno all else is hear say and as such is meaningless hi-octane=lower slower burn temp/time if your motor is not set up for it it wont make much difference.Usually used in conjunction with higher comp very useful in 2 strokes.50/50 mix can be of use on standard set up race 2 strokes.

yep got to agree. get ya bikes on a dyno and let us know the results. different bikes have different set ups. some will run better some maybe worse.
do the test and lets me know. might be interesting.
