View Full Version : Bike tyres and glass on the road

Ran into a patch of broken glass on the road this morning - right in the middle of a corner. Covered all of my lane so I had no real option but to go through it. Looked like a bottle had been dropped. The bits appeared fairly small.
In the wagon I'd not give it a second thought. Car tyres don't seem to suffer much from running through that kind of thing.
But I don't know how bike tyres treat such stuff. In the event I got home just fine. I'll check the tyres tomorrow morning when I have some time to spend on it, just to see if there are any bits embedded in the tread anywhere.
What experiences have others had with broken glass? How likely is it to puncture a bike tyre?

Never had a puncture, but found a few bits lodged in there, one about 5mm deep :shit: Not sure if the canvas stopped it, and would have been a non issue anyway, or if I just got lucky.

Hmm need a new belt, trousers keep slipping down. Mind you that just could be the weight of the "package"!

When I ran the gs1200ss on the metzler's never had a glass puncture. Mind you a nail (read stake) puncture expelled air quicker than my last blow up girlfriend

Why change them? Steel should be harder wearing than rubber.
Local tyre dealer said glass seems to grind up with tyres these days, Reckons screws and nails still do a good job of stuffing tyres.

I've just succummed to 'old mans' disease, Braces. Gee they make a difference to walking around without having to hitch up the strides every 20 paces.
