hey guy i got a 1999 rm 125 jammed in gear i've started pulling out the engine and noticed the rod that goes from the gear box to the side part of the top end isn't there and I wanted to know what does it do and if it might be the reason why it's jammed into gear.

Thanks

Adam

That rod opens and closes the powervalve, if its broken it would end up in the clutch/gearbox and could be jamming up the shifting mechanism. With a non operating powervalve the bike would run like absolute shit too.

What are the gears up near the power valve rod for? it was jammed up in them and they couldn't spin but it seems that popping off that whole side cover and freeing them up has free up my shifter and I'm trying to work out if that was acutally the problem or my moving the engine around while working on it has knock something back into place.

I dont know the specifics, but I suppose that those gears are driven by something attached to the primary gear off the crank, and they activate the powervalve when the engine gets to a certain RPM. I dont think it will have been good for the engine to run with the powervalve actuator loose like you say.

Is the actuator damaged or broken? could be a piece of it is jammed up in the shifting mechanism, and by moving the engine around/pulling the primary cover off, you have dislodged it.

It's deffently bent out of shape just finish pulling the crank case apart cause it was still having issues shifting but because I had it sitting right it made it seem like it was ok. I don't know how but the forks thats shift the gears have popped out of the gear changer, again I have no idea how this happened but it could have been much worse. But all the gears are looking ok a bit of wear on the gears not too much and the gears that sit around the power valve all are looking good still good, but i figured out that most of them drive the water pump. I had a good look at the piston, ring etc and its all looking pretty clean and no damage which is good so I think the engine didnt take any damage for the rod coming off. Lucky I have my 250 or there would be no riding for Adam this weekend.
