Some of the stuff I want for my bike seems to only be available from the US, and they seem to prefer Paypal. So, is it good, bad, easy, whatever?

I've bought a bit of stuff from the US and have always used Paypal. I've never had a problem but I always only buy from sellers with good feedback and a high number of sales. Shop smartly and you'll be right :niceone:

I avoided using it for a few years thinking it would lead to problems but so far it has been hassle free.
They do take there cut. Say if the exchange rate was 85 cents they would transfer you money at that but keep some to make it look like a 83 exchange all in all it's cheaper and easier then doing a off shore bank transfer.

good and easy but be careful who the third party is, paypal seems to offer good protection for you credit card details etc but don't give a shit if you never receive the goods.

I too know of people who have had refunds without any problem. It seems Pay Pal is very protective of the buyers interests. I have heard that there are an increasing number of instances where buyers are scamming sellers by claiming refunds from Paypal, stating that the goods they received were junk and supplying Paypal with bogus photographic evidence to support the claims.
I have used paypal for years without ever having the need to communicate with them because there haven't been any problems with any of the transactions. The fees are cheap by comparison to the likes of Western Union and a simpler process.

Most sellers only accept paypal payment from international buyers, and only if your account has been verified.

Just used it for ebay purchase from Aussie today, total $2.99aus lol, blank key for gixxer as the blanks won't fit into keyway, without grinding edges and losing strength of key where the plastic is,and the local dude says the supplier has nothing similar to original profile which is why I grabbed from ebay.
Used befor for no hassle purchase.

I use it all the time with no problems.
I have however had a scammer offer to buy all my parts from an ad I placed on trademe, after giving him my paypal address he tried sending me a bogus letter from paypal saying he had put double the amount in my account.
The extra thousand dollars was to be used for shipping. He then asked me to wire that extra grand vie western union to him, and he would inform paypal to release the money to me once he had received the shipping money.
So I would get the purchase price I was asking, and a refund for the shipping.
It was all too suss for me so I tracked his IP Address and found a site dedicated to catching him. I led him on a goose chase for the money saying I couldn't afford etc for a week, and he was threatening legal action and he was even gonna send his cousin (popo) around.
After getting board I sent him a message saying all this shit about an FBI Tracking file attached to the e-mail and ya better pack now.
I haven't heard from him since
