Who wants to help me out with buckets at Kaitoke?

Wanted to try bucket racing a while ago but had issues with getting leave at work...

Does anyone have a spare bucket that they would be willing to lend to me for a couple of races? (Just wanna see if racing is for me)
Would prefer a 4stroke but im not too fussy.

I would like to do that but wouldn't want to turn up and look like a noob with full gear and no definite bike :(

I would love to offer but I have a broken arse and my partner will be recovering from an operation so no go for us. However, if you want to borrow a real piece of shit and just get a feel for bucket racing and we can get one of the guys to pick it up from Upper hutt on the way we might just be able to sort something..... I'm going to piss some people off right about now, but seriously, I don't care.

I really hate people who ask for a huge favour (borrowing a bike) and then get all precious about it being the wrong brand, the wrong colour, not set up right, or whatever.

The first bike I borrowed, I really didn't care what it was, I had a ball taking it for a ride (and feeling a dick). It took a few years before we got a bucket, but it was us trying to work out what we wanted.

My first dirtbike was a steaming pile, but I'd bought it for $50 and put a little bit more into it (whatever a lever and throttle cable costs, I think) and had a blast on it. When I lent it to a friend/acquaintance/notsurereallybutIthinkshewasafriendatthetime I thought she'd look down her nose at it, but she was grateful to be able to go riding, and had just as many laughs as I did.

I do understand, however, about borrowing a bike set up for standard or race shift - I'm not keen on race shift.

As for turning up with gear and feeling like a dick, if you've got gear and are keen, I'll happily lend my bike to you, but if you've got no gear, I won't even offer.

Really only a few people have ridden my bike. Half I regret offering it to and the others looked quite fast so will never ride it again. Would be good to have a hack dedicated for new riders. Maybe something for the future. If you turn up with yah gear you will get a ride for sure.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea, I know a few people that wouldnt mind giving buckets a go!

A friend of mine has generously offered one of his bikes for me to use. (38, Ive heard its been ridden by a few riders) Thanx to the people that offered to help. Good to see that you guys look out for one another! :)

The first bucket I rode was when I got started with road riding 2 years ago and it was George's RG50 and it was MINT! Carb was falling off, skinny little road tires and slow as hell. I was getting my first proper knee down and it was amazing. I want a slow bike like that again.

We do have a bike up in Auckland that people can use once. It's busy most weekends and even gets used as a back-up bike every now and then (Fast Tim's been doing pretty good on it lol).

Henk and I will offer our bikes to whomever we chose to, but it'll usually be once (unless it's a friend), but attitude means a lot as well. Funnily enough, I wanted a chick colour as I'd hoped it would keep the guys off my bike but no one really gives a damn and they'll still ride it. They do hesitate when I offer though, because while I know it's the rider causing the bike to go slow, they seem to think it's the bike (until they ride it).

The silly tart (bike, not me) better behave at Kaitoke in October (no rain please, but I think the problem has been fixed after last time). I also know I haven't ridden my bike for a couple of meets, but hope to remedy that soon (somehow I'm having more fun on the F5 bike than on #44 at the moment, but I'm also trying to work out how to get more out of it than I can currently).

Emilio, I do hope you have fun next meet, I know I've seen posts previously from you about wanting to give it a go. It's generally a great bunch of folk and for me, it's more about getting out, riding my bike around in circles, having a laugh with friends (and totally trying to ignore my attempt at racing, which I don't really get, and generally find me wanting to stop for a cuppa or something to eat mid-race and wishing everyone would hurry and keep lapping me so I can get it over and done with, as I hate pulling out of a race).

Oh, and the bottle of wine is going down nicely, hence my ramblings :)
