Your opinion on the following bikes please

I've managed to find a fellow Paddy and biker that's offered to put me up in Auckland and help me find a bike.

I'm still trying to get an idea of what I need to be budgeting with regard to buying the bike. It's difficult to get a sense of what kind of money bikes sell for when they sit on Trademe for weeks or months.

The following is a shortlist of some of the bikes I've been giving careful consideration to (priced low to high). Feel free to call me an idiot...

Shit - that's a range of bikes - different types .. sports, crusiser, sports/tourer.

It depends on what you what from a bike ... and what you want it to do.

I'd go with one of the Bandits - doesn't really matter which .. they are the best thing I've ever ridden - quick enough to be fun and also comfortable on a long distance cruise ...

My criteria is as follows; Must be suitable to tour, must be suitable for a rider who is 6'4" and it must be either a) easy to sell or b) cheap enough to walk away from if I need to get home quickly. That's why I'm staying open minded as possible.

the '06 Bandit. Bargain big bore and the best bang for buck. The SV will feel cramped, the CBR is too old, the CB has cosmetic damage, and the Vulcan is left field.

bit of a side note....when I was in Ireland in 02/04 I found insurance was a nightmare....apart from the price of it.... being a ' non resident" ( despite having an Irish passport). Bring lots of supporting docs from your insurer, might make life easier.

Believe it or not you don't have to take out insurance here....:gob: as ACC will pick up the tab for personal injury due to our registration ( Tax Disc) arrangement.
But I understand you may need to take out your own insurance for loss of wages etc.
Under 5K gives you some good what we used to call " drive and dump" options....
Personally I think New Zealand deserves a slower bike..... I found a 50 HP BMW fine around Europe.
We have bugger all motorways here and the roads in my opinion are not much better than Irish roads prior to the EU spending lots on them...:innocent:

The Bandits look pretty good. The CB1300 would still do the job with smiles.

Skip the SV1000 unless you want a V-twin near sports bike.

Go look at them, test ride then decide (as always)

I thought so too. I think that if there isn't some achilles heel, it could be a viable option. I'm not sure they'd hang on for a month at that price, though.

Well... according to http://cycle-ergo.com/ , the SV isn't too far away from my Busa. I'm also thinking that getting a non IL4 bike would be great for a change.

From that list I'm another who would go the Bandit way. They are well proven and handle nicely on New Zealand's roads.

Alternatively, a VFR800....that'd be my very biased pick. Or a ZZR1000.
