View Full Version : Another highway lane switch - into me

willytheekid

 Do I have sign on me that says "Pull into me=150pts!"

Just recovered from being punched off the highway by a drunk driver in a 4x4 (Im STILL recovering from the dislocated shoulder bit)
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/139166-Sideswiped-off-the-highway-by-a-4x4
Now some blind (and deaf!...how do you NOT hear a +90db v-twin beside u?) lady decides she wants my little wee peice of the road....with out checking or 3sec indication etc, she just swung out and straight into me:blink:
Jammed on the picks & the horn and dove right to avoid the "fender Kiss" and let her go through.
Really getting sick of drivers not looking...or giving a shit about their actions or possible consequences!....this lady didn't even acknowledge what she had done, she just gave me a dirty look when I went past her later on....like it was my fault for being on HER private road.

Still....At least this one wasn't drunk, speeding and leaving me tank slapping on the grass medium @90k with a dislocated shoulder

RANT OVER!

....Ride safe out there KBers

Glad you were awake enough to avoid a crash. Give your evidence to the police.

Nice that you're OK ...

I got nearly taken out the other day twice in about 30 yards of road ...

Following a 4x4 (why is it always these pricks?) towards a roundabout with a free left turn lane ... (heading over the hill from Whakatane to Ohope for those who know the road) ... 4x4 heading to roundabout and slowing, I move into left lane and don't slow .. 4x4 suddenly swings left (no indicators) I'm already alongside the rear wheel - brake hard and hit horn ... she never even looks in her mirror ...

Round the corner, car comes through round-about into the right lane, slows to let the 4x4 in front go past then swings into left lane WHERE I ALREADY AM!!!!

Neither of them got me ...

 Usually I am, but not this morning...I believe I may have a blimp following me with a "HIT ME" sign pointed at me lol

Just wish I didn't have to allow for peoples poor driving habits....but been practicing for 30yrs...nearly got the hang of it lol

Know what ya mean....the 4x4's are shocking lately....The ChCh 4x4 drivers are on some "better than tho" kick at the mo (cos they can go over pot holes fast or somthin?)
Good to hear your ok Bandit, ride safe mate.

And No...Im not gonna waste the police's time chasing up another useless driver (if she looked drunk...yup!), But this is just one of those thing that goes with riding in work traffic everyday...its gonna happen!- hence I don't speed or lane filter etc...I just focus on survival nowdays.

I just needed to rant as I didn't think the next "close one" would be so soon after the 4x4 incident....16yrs previous to that was my last accident (drunk driver...t-boned me....pain....rehab....learn to walk....etc)

now now there are posters to this site who seem to believe it is always the bikers fault and this is the only attitude that will reduce the ACC levies. Poor deluded fools.

You both knwo that 4x4 drivers, at least those in the urban shinnies, only bought them because when they have a accident they will be the bigger vehicle and therefore they think it means they will survive. The classic "I'm already screw you"

She had no excuses, she blamed you, from your original post, and you have the photos. At least give the authorities the chance to educate her or the next time you meet her she might have a 4x4.

I don't think that would be wasting their time, and I'd definitely recommend it, but if your adamant about not doing so you should at-least goto the cop shop online and fill out the "report a bad driver" she wont get a ticket but should receive a reminder of the rules

Yes I did actually think about loggin a report on :
https://forms.police.govt.nz/forms/online-community-roadwatch-report/9
But its just one of those things, I always see at least one crazy act of driving a day on my daily commute.
...but as oneofsix said "next time you meet her she might have a 4x4"...or worse...she could kill another rider or a kid etc...and that would not make me feel good for not acting.

Will post an online report to the police now.....just in case

:niceone: I understood the wanted to just get past it and I too see that short of stuff all the time so understand you there to, but it was just too blatant and you had such good pics it seemed a waste not to take the chance to try and educate her before she caused more harm.
Thank you for your effort, even though I don't ride in the same area.

Sorry, the car was all but out of shot, why did you not just accelerate in front of the bint instead of moving behind. There looked to be room between you and the truck in front?

Did these still frames come from a video, could you post that?

LOL, I try to never let them get me angry (Besides...they have half a ton of argument ending steel at their desposal)...and I learnt many yrs ago....some cars have cast-iron mirrors! lol
I have, however, submitted an online report so the police can call her and have a talk.

maybe but maybe also the lady would get a fright when she saw how close she came to hurting/killing someone and take a bit more care in the future...

A long loud blast on the stebel usually wakes them up. Just watch out when they swing madly in the opposite direction and almost run off the road - brilliant:killingme :innocent:

I didn't accelerate because its quicker and much safer to brake and just let them go (I had a clear lane behind me), as the car's nose/front is coming in before the end/rear of the car (angle wise), so theres more room to maneuver/dodge at the back end of the vehical when braking in this circumstance, and accelerating could result in the car clipping my rear end if i shot past(and I look like the unsafe road user)....then its gonna get messy!
(The above is what my advanced rider trainer taught me many yrs ago...so I use it)
As for the vid....at work no access to my youtube etc (and no BB @ home :crybaby:)...will try and post it when I get the chance tho

if they're dumb enough to do this what are they gonna do when they hear a Stebel in their Ear, panic and flip sideways and rollover.
It's not always clever to scare a dumb person sadly...

That's why you have to be very careful and give then plenty of room!

Gah. Mate! I hate that stuff. I've been hit like that once and the weird thing was that the woman driving the car kept trying to push me out of the way once she'd made contact. The Stebel didn't make her sod off either.

Maybe you should consider a boat or something, at least until the "run into willy" season passes.

Thing is about cars , they are bigger , and if used correctly usually win

though on the other hand , we have magical powers that can completely annihilate those monsters

and after , umpteen years of using these magic powers, I have yet to find myself in a difficult nay impossible situation

oh these magical powers, are within you,,,,,,,,,,, young sky-walker

Willy you better start watching out for your local politician in case they also drive like this.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10750217

A furious Auckland mum has complained to the Prime Minister and police after an "abusive and degrading" driving incident involving National MP Tau Henare. Cicelia Holliday told the Herald she was "absolutely gobsmacked

She said she was driving with her 12-year-old daughter along Ash St in Avondale just after 10.30am last Thursday when a car in the lane beside her suddenly pulled in front of her without indicating the lane change.

"He started going on about 'what happened to common courtesy' ... repeatedly talking over me when I tried to ask him why he hadn't indicated his intention to move across the lane in front of me

I just love the way in this case he thought he was right. I guess that's politicians for you

So did said 4X4 driver get nailed in court?

Unfortunatly never made it that far scummy , happened so quick I barely managed to get the colour of the 4x4, but unfortunatly not the make, model or #plate.
.....I found it hard to focus on the #plate while hanging off the side of the bike @90k with a dislocated shoulder during a tank slap on the grass medium.
I did call the central station to try and report it, they were very nice to deal with, but advised there wasn't much they could do with the little info I had.

Just glad it didn't turn out far worse to be honest (was a week before my son Ryders 1st b-day.....it really shook the missis up)

I am interested in the camera set up would come in very handy at times, how much rec time does it have and how expensive?

Hi Rhys :)
I use a Tachyon XC camera (cost me $100), its not the best for sound or low light pics etc, but its shock & water proof.(handy in winter etc)
8g SDHC card gives me +2hrs recording.
I just use some 3m Duallock (velcro on steroids) on a mount for the left clipon/tripple tree and have some 3m duallock on the top off my helmet as well, so I can use either the bike or my head for a mount.:ride:
I usually always ride with a camera to catch some nice rides etc, but mainly its for "just in case" situations (like this one...comes in handy), and to review my own ride lines/choices etc.
Highly recommend getting one :niceone:
