Hi, can anyone provide feedback on the Givi Easylock Tankbag? I want something to carry a small amount of gear on the 250 and am a bit paranoid about scratching up the tank etc. From what I've read on here so far, back packs can be a bit of a hazard in an off, and I'm not too keen on trying to secure a bag to the back of my bike. All (constructive :innocent:) feed back appreciated.

DOnt know too much about that bag in particular, but the biggest problem with the ones with magnets, is that when the bag is off the bike, the magnets attract random shavings of anything metallic, then you put the bag on the bike, and when you take it off again, the metallic shavings get dragged through your paint, its a bit cunty.

Yeah, that was a concern for me with the magnetic tankbags which is why I am liking this option. However with nil roadbike experience I'm hoping that someone wiser than myself will be able to pass on some good advice.

I have a MotoDry tank bag that uses the magnetic attachment. I haven't have an issue with stray iron but this would come down to being aware that the base is a magnet so don't place it where it can pick up stray iron bits or make sure you clean it afterwards if you do.
A point raised to me just the other day was the magnets affecting electronic equipment just as laptops. So far I haven't noticed a problem even though I often carry the laptop in the bag.
I find that if when I take the bag off the tank I fold the flaps in and snap them together against the back of the bag the magnets don't go randomly grabbing stuff. When I haven't done this I have occasional found it would grab a door handle or some other inconvenient piece of metal.

I;ve been using a cargo net for the last three years. I put my stuff (lunch, visor, wallets etc) in a small bag and strap it on. I think that they're about $30 from Cycletreads.

For the reasons outlined by the OP, I chose a tail bag instead of a tank bag.

Ventura brand. Attaches to a harness that fits onto the pillion seat. You need removable pillion seat to be able to fit it. Very secure. As long as you remember to do up the f***ing clips! (No, DAMHIK...)

I recently got one of the Givi tank bags with the easy lock mounting system and I am so stoked with it, no more scratches on my tank, the ring when not in use doesn't get in the way of anything, albeit not the most attractive feature.

Tank Bag is well designed and top quality as is most givi stuff, my tank bag came with a rain cover and also had a little pull out pocket which sits on top of the bag to hold either a cellphone/gps.

Bottom clip on system on the bag itself can be moved along the length of the bag with varying mounting points to best sit on your tank.

Worth every penny i spent on it.

I had a small ventura 3.5 litre tank bag and also an oxford 18litre (which i still have) and both have scratched my tank in some way (although scuff tape on there to prevent it with my new bike).

Thanks for the input so far everyone and for the offer ynot, but I'm not too sold on the idea of the magnetic tank bags. And Grant another question for you. Regarding the flange attachment, was your bike specifically named on the flange list? (I hope that makes sense)

MY bike is a Honda CB1000R Predator, I didn't look at models I just presumed that the Honda one would fit on my bike.

I didn't see anywhere mentioning specific models it would or would not fit on, Its a very basic fitting system, you could actually almost buy any fiiting kit and either re drill holes for your bike or have a engineer fabricate a replacement plate fairly cheaply.

Awesome thats what I needed to know thanks.
I was talking about this list here: http://www.motomail.co.nz/Users/motomail.co.nz/Files/Givi_Easylock_Bike_Fitments.pdf

And yes I do see your point about modifying or redesigning a flange to suit. Cheers Nick

50 million thumbs up for Kriega gear. Although I haven't used their tank bag system, my US20 is absolutely fantastic.

Check out my video review of it here:

Why dont you go for a tank and tail!
Best of both worlds and only about $40 extra! quite well thought out the way the two methods swap over!
Use it as a tail then chuck it on the tank when you have a pillion or are loaded up for a big trip! If your just buzzing down to the shops and cant be bothered strapping and unstrapping it as a tail use it as a tank bag!
I'm the same as previously mentioned I took the big bungy chords off as soon as I got it! I take the seat off and use the velcroe strap and also clip the side thingys under! heaps secure enough.

Great multi purpose bag for the price!

I use a fully magnetic tankbag and have not had any scratches. Just be aware of what it can pick up and treat it accordingly. I give the bag base a quick sweep with the hand before attaching the magnets onto the tank. When refuelling it goes onto the seat and then straight back onto the tank.

My bag separates into 2 components, a small 70mm(?) high base part (which can be used as a single bag with top map pocket) and a top bag that will hold a pair of shoes or similar. Very good for longer travels, but the small base is what gets used most. Holds camera, drinkbottle, snacks, etc for Coro day trips.

I used to use a thin tea towel under the magnets, to protect the paint. . They always gripped, never had the bag move around, although the tank bag also had a light strap that secured arounf the handle bar/ steering yoke.

Now, all I need are some magnets for the bag. Can't buy the right shaped ones anywhere.
