hey guys, who are you using for travel insurance for touring in the usa?
I enquired at the travel agent and they said "no" to travel insurance when on a motorcycle.
thanks

I'm with ASB and have a gold mastercard. If you pay for a certain percentage on the card, you have free travel insurance (meh, I just paid for the air tickets via the card).
It's underwritten by Southern Cross (perhaps a starting point for you?), I was shipping my own bike across. The insurance wouldn't have applied if I was in an official tour, on a rental bike or competition purposes (racing). There's several pages of terms and conditions, you can download from ASB's site.
Long story short, I double checked I would be covered. Couldn't get it in writing, but she stated I could refer to the discussion, at x time, her name, all calls were recorded.

Physco, like Gremlin I went with Southern cross - for a slightly different reason;
We were already out of the country when we sought medical/repatriation type cover while riding in the US. (Until then we were covered by my Wife's Employers insurance in the Middle East)
SX offer a "Working Holiday " Policy which allowed us to sign up while not being in NZ. We also checked the fine print and confirmed we were covered while riding my Buddy's bike.
Hope that yelps:psst:

I had private general travel insurance but when on the bike rented bike I used the insurance offered by the company I hired it from, it covered me, Mrs Scumie and the bike.
Not cheap but preferable to the alternative if we arsed off uninsured on a brand new Ultra-Glide.

FWIW we used Southern Cross on a recent trip to the states, which ended generating over $1000 in fees due to delayed and re-booked flights (every single one!! Two by 24hrs!) and missed hotel bookings. Sent in all the paperwork etc almost 3 weeks ago.
I contacted them on Monday, they hadn't even gotten around to looking at it yet. :angry: We barely scraped together enough $$ to make the trip, and while we wait for the insurance to come through we're 'running on fumes' so to speak.
