Insurance renewal time, and I remember I haven't provided insurance a list of all the extras on the bike. So it got me to thinking... how much is too much? Is there such a thing as too much? I imagine asking that in a modding forum would have the easy answer of an emphatic NO... I'll see once I email my insurers :innocent:

My list (with a few more to come in a while):
BMW Aluminium Panniers
BMW Extra Height Hand Guards
Givi Trekker Top Box and fitment plate

Touratech Cockpit Surround w/ 2 Power Outlets
Touratech Front Fender Extender
Touratech Rear Splash Guard
Touratech Drive Shaft Crash Bung
Touratech Oil Cooler Guard
Touratech Frame Protectors
Touratech Headlight Protector and glare shield
Touratech Windscreen Spoiler & metal hard part
Touratech Accessory Hub (x2)

Exo Heated Vest Controller
Xenonrider H7 HID Kit w/ Canbus Ballast
AdvDesigns Engine Guard Extensions
Weiser Swing Arm Pivot Cover
AltRider Side Stand Foot
AltRider Potentiometer Guard
Clearwater Krista LED lights with Connector Kit for GSA
Denali D1 LED 2 Light Kit
LED Light Strips on hand guards

ExcelCycleWerkes Exhaust Extensions
ExcelCycleWerkes Bar Mount Kit
ExcelCycleWerkes Toe Guard Kit

GME TX4600 UHF Transceiver (hard wired into bike) and associated aerial
Baehr Verso XL (with associated cables for GPS, Radar, UHF Radio)
Beltronics STI Radar Detector
Garmin Zumo 550 and wiring

Excepting the last block of 4 (I don't want insurance to have them), the total is just over $6000, no fitting charges, freighting charges etc, which don't get covered. Can't believe I've spent that much since buying the bike in mid-January.

Wouldn't it be easier to insure it as a mobile motorcycle accessory shop???

as for insurance, its probably going to depend on the nature of the mods, i.e. performance or comfort.
Insurance will want to devalue each item as well as the bike each year, so youll want to be mindfull of that, no point paying premiums on a 10k value bike, when insurance will only value it at 7k if you bin and want a payout

Good idea... what's the going rate for a shop? :innocent: I've offered the bike to the dealer as a display now and then as well...

Correct, each year I get an idea from the dealer as to it's value, add on the accessories, and there you go. You have to over-insure actually, as insurance won't payout above the value (almost certainly under), and then I'd simply tell them to fit all the accessories on, with their low ball value. Thankfully haven't been in that situation, but being prepared is good...

Moves just fine... it's a 1200 after all... but yes, it does add a few kilos.

You taking your kiddie porn business on the road or something?
Huh? Stop touching the kiddies! :shit:

So looking at that list of mods, you'd be better suited to a car.

The short answer would be anywhere... with the GPS I can go anywhere I like, and still eventually get home. However, in the USA I did do one road that even google maps doesn't show. In hindsight, it wasn't the best idea, fully loaded, alone. Was told the following morning that SAR has been quite active in that area, and the guy said he wouldn't take his Ford F150 Ute there, and he helps in SAR...

Been bulletproof so far... scraped engine guards have proved their worth... bash plate is a bit dented (and the bike was in off road mode, giving it more ground clearance)

If the value of the farkles is over 25% of the vehicle value, then you will struggle to get insurance, due to some nonsense the insurers have put in place re boy racers. DAMHIK. :bye: OEM & standard is far betterer for insurers.

mmm interesting... never come across that?

Easy option... have an expensive bike :2thumbsup

As it is... I now have to get the shop to write up a valuation, so the insurance would be more happy, should something happen.
