anyone know whether the two piece jackets/pants will zip into each other or do you have to join the two branded pieces of cowhide together as intended?

It depends. Some zips have different lengths and tooth sizes. I suspect your choices, other than matching Alpinestars gear, will be limited.

All Alpinestars jackets come with a spare zip so they can be stitched on to any pants.
Make sure you know the exact placement of where the zip needs to be stitched on to the pants. If not done correctly, your riding comfort will be compromised when the jacket is attached to your pants.
As mentioned above, you may be lucky if the zip on your jacket suits the zip on your pants.

Its not an expensive fix to change zips. One of the most common fixes I end up doing. Probably about the $50 mark to have it changed, might be a little more if it's a very long zip. try an upholsterer, canvas worker in your town or you could courier it to me and I could do it.

I had an old Teknic jacket that I really liked and recently bought some leather pants. I took them both to my local canvas repairer, and she added a new zip to the pants so they attach together like a 2 pce suit. It only cost me $45 and it fits like a charm. :)

You should be ablle to go to a leather/shoe repairer and take the two items they can then (at the cost of 2 zips) make a 'middle converter' section that has the matching half of the two zips used... that keeps the original zips in place in case you buy a jacket or trousers with zips that match the original zips fitted...
