As long as nothing else comes up, I'll come along to watch at least. I'd love to participate actually but my bike can't handle full lock turns very easily :(

Practice makes perfect, you will find that it is more the rider than anything. I set up some really tight courses yesterday in Albany and at first thought they were impossible but got them after awhile.
When i come down to this gymkhana course i will be ready!!

I think confidence is an essential part of biking, commiting to that corner or leaning further than you would have leaned before. swinging your bike around at slow speeds and making decisions in the blink of an eye. Confidence is essential so i try to use it as much as possible. come and join in!!
Katman

The beauty of an event like this is that newer riders who have spent time more recently practicing around cones are possibly going to be better at it than a lot of far more experienced riders.

Would love to - but I can't as (a) I still only have my dirt bike and (b) confidence is clearly not my middle name.....maybe one day though I will make the switch from dirt to road........give me another 10 years Mr Confident:laugh:

I sat my test on a barely road legal dirt bike in the UK, cones, figure 8's the lot in pishing rain & high winds, the bike was really easy to handle. If you can, go for it. Not sure what criteria is for the bikes, though & it won't get hurt if it has a lie down.

Dual purpose bikes are ok. Basically, if it can be road rego'd then it's ok to use. No MX bikes or pit bikes. If in doubt contact us!

TBH, I would be in like a KY greased rat if had the time, I would be happy to do Taupo & back in a day, my arse would'nt, with the intention of happily just having a crack at my own pace & ability, squish a cone or three etc just for the experience & confidence boost I would get from better (more committed) riders. I would fill my panniers with foam, take my mirrors off & bubble wrap the bike. Be a bugger pushing it back to the Bay of Islands.
We need a motorsport facility up here. I'm going to call the mayor.
