I'm trying to remove super glue after removing a tank pad. Nail polish remover doesn't seem to work at all. Any ideas?

Nail polish remover would only help if it has acetone in it (which many don't these days) but then this will also take your paint off so be careful and work very slowly with a cotton bud or similar. An acetone containing nail polish could work or you could just buy some acetone from your local pharmacy

What colour are your nails?
Don't use nail polish remover - it is basically a paint stripper!
If it is just the sticky glue residue from the tank pad adhesive soak it with WD40 or a product called De-Solv-it (good shit and available from the super in the cleaning section).

Again, if it is just the adhesive from the pad, you will be surprised what you can achieve with a fairly hard pencil eraser. Don't ask me how, but it works.
You can also get a similar type rubber wheel that you can attach to a drill, I just can't recall what they are called for some reason. A panelbeater should know.

Its super glue i'm sure of it. I just checked whats in the remover and it has acetone. I've only tried with a cloth so I might get some cotton buds and try.

I was told by a very reliable source once that nitro methane works best for cyanoacrylate glues. Good luck finding that at Mitre 10.

Agreed,
But I was thinking more along the lines of,
Who the fuck super glues a tank pad onto their fucking gas tank?!
if its a sticky residue it will work.

My wife caught my three year old son "washing" my car with 1 grit sandpaper the other day, a fucking great rock. Awesome..............

You could try aceatone, its also sold as super glue remover, but you are probably buggered.

Given superglue is a cyanoacetate I would have thought nothing would shift it, but I learnt some thing today. The issue is how impervious is the clear coat on your tank to aceatone? One of the solvents in lacker thinners is aceatone, from memeory its only about 10%. I would not expect even 2K clear (which is also another cyanoacetate) to withstand aceatone, its just too stronger a solvent.
Just in case it isn't super glue try, turps, meths then toluol.
Why not stick another tank pad over the area and just hide it?
Sorry about the spelling, i'm an engineer not an english teacher and spell check does not seem to want to work on this PC when I am connected to the WAN.

Might sound a bit silly, but I would try WD40. At least there won't be any collateral damage.

Washing something? Where the heck did he learn that from? You ever thought of a paternity test, might not be yours....

You could always cover the original superglue marks by glueing those old foil milk bottle tops all over your tank, together with some sequins and beads, and enter it in your local village fete :innocent:....either that or sell the tank to your local art gallery for $1 million and tell them it's titled "Petroltank with superglue 2011" :woohoo: No need to thank me....

Originally it had a big fat rubber one on it. I brought a nice pro grip one and the glues texture comes through, shit mate. So i'm gonna try this super glue remover if I can find some.

Could be an interesting experiment?
As for superglue on paint, I've heard that coke-cola is effective, but that could also be an urban legend?
What does work is to use a shortened panel file (run file), though it requires some skill. Here's what I did while experimenting with superglue.

Final pic was after blocking with P2000 and then soft P3000.

coca cola? isn't that for rust. I'll try it, looks like super glue remover is quite elusive
