I was thinking of advancing my timing chain a tooth or two on my zxr250 how much gain would you think id get out of doing that

You will not gain anything except maybe some experience.

You will however lose horsepower.

Changing cam timing moves the power up and down the rpm range. You only move it a small amount tho, nowhere near a tooth. You can slot the cam sprockets where the bolts go in to make them adjustable. However, I don't recommend playing around too much, as you can cause a lot of damage if you get it wrong. :shit:
Do a heap of research on cam timing before you even look at it.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, ignore the timing adjustments if you want REAL POWER. Just go and get yourself some Avgas, take off the airbox and cut off your exhaust pipes then you'll be smokin' those 750 riding noobs

nah all good was just curious about if it was possible advancing the timing with the cam chain. i had to adjust the cam chain anyway because whoever replaced it had the intake cam 1 tooth out. I heard something about you can lose a bit of power by modding the airbox too

Dumb questions get dumb answers. Have you tried changing your powerband? Red ones are best.

It will give more low rev 'power' - if the bike has any.

Retarding it will make it have more 'power at high revs.

 do it and send me a pic of the valves after you bend them.

No, do not do it by the teeth, as DEATH_INC has said, cam timing shifts where the power is made (hence why a VANOS BMW makes more power/torque lower down but the same peak HP as one without variable cam timing)

You won't get any more HP out of a ZXR without reliability compromises and losing the already huge lack of torque.

Then it'll have less at the other end of the rev range

Hey, just explaining the effects of cam timing adjustment.

I didn't say 'do it'!

screw it dude, just go for it, you'll learn heaps and have a blast doing it.

you can get more power without an airbox, a straight through pipe and a rejet of the carbs. (prob only at WOT, but thats 99% of the time on a zxr250...)
