More than lucky I'd say. No lid, jeans and a shirt. I imagine his medical insurance premiums are about to go through the roof.

Yup!, totally agree!

Lack of safety gear wouldn't have helped.

Bloody brave of those people to rush out onto a road and lift a buring car!....always nice to see people helping someone in need

Looks like it was the bike itself that was burning not the car, but still.. wouldn't want it to move to the car's fuel lines would you..

Edit: I reread and it said both vehicles burst in to flames... that's just uncommon :\ Prob started by the bike.

I'm wondering why some people still think it's a good idea to "lay it down".

I am thinking the same - I've been in that situation twice and both times I chose to go over the top superman styles - worst injury was a badly sprained ankle.

It's an easy choice really - lay it down and go into/under the solid object, or go over the top and possibly miss everything, except the road when you land. But at least there is a chance you will bounce/slide on the road and not come to an immediate dead stop.

Isn't the choice in this situation to brake or not to brake? I would have thought he was just trying to do an emergency stop and lost the front due to overbraking.

Well thats another mistake isn't it. He should have braked hard of course, but kept it upright until just before point of impact then stand on the pegs and take a dive.

Yeah. Every now and then I think that there may be hope for us as a race.

Thanks

Agreed, but he could have reacted wrong here and grabbed a fist of brake, or not had enough emergency brake practise.

Yep.

I was also going to say not wearing a helmet was a big mistake, but given that he went under the car, a helmet might have just got jammed and the momentum of his body could have broken his neck. But we'll never know.

I do wonder if he slid under the car, or the car ran over him to get him in to a stuck position. Maybe a bit of both.

True - not nice. Probably a bonus that he was unconscious.

It could have been worse, he could of had the tow bar jammed up his arse.

Anyone watch the actual video? Good on the bystanders for everything they did, but as soon as he's out from under the car they all just fuck off and stand 5 metres back watching him as if he's going to stand up and walk off...

no wonder he is in critical condition.

Probably because he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Did anyone notice the guys leg after he has been dragged out. As the rescuer stops dragging him and sets his leg down, the leg is very floppy and bends the wrong way :gob::gob:

Yeah, I guess you get that when you've got two badly broken legs and a broken pelvis.
I bet he just hit the rear brake, got it sliding then laid it down. If he knew how to ride, he would've braked hard and ridden around the car.

It looks like the officer there told them to. Due to possible explosion of car. And because none of them are doctors..

When Brandon Wright, 21, was pinned underneath a car he had collided with, flames and smoke began to pour out of the car. A group of students at Utah State University came to his rescue, ignoring their own peril to line up on one side of the 4,000lb car and lift it to allow Wright to be pulled to safety.

Assistant Logan Police Chief Jeff Curtis said one could "only speculate what the outcome would have been" had none of the rescuers sprung to action.

The students are now being called “angels” and heroes” – titles the students are trying to avoid. “That's a big title," said Sharif, a doctoral candidate from Lebanon. "I don't consider myself a hero. It's just our humanity ... Everyone is going to help,” adding “"The chance of him dying if we don't do it is like 100 percent. If you weigh the chance of you being in danger, that's going to be low, like 20 percent, compared to 100 percent."

A grateful Wright said from his hospital bed “I'm just very thankful for everyone that helped me out. They saved my life."

although he doesnt look like hes in the best state when hes pulled from the car. I wonder how the scene wouldve looked if he was wearing some protective gear?

On that matter, how does a helmet behave when its got something crushing it? does it compress then fail and split?

It looks like he wasn't the most safety conscious biker if his lack of PPE was anything to go by. I get the feeling they're a long way across the road. It's as if either the biker was half asleep or not watching or the cager was really hammering it... or all of the above.

Can anyone figure out what kind of bike it is?

Depends on the material. Helmets can only take up to a certain impact. Depending on what you've hit it could punch a hole, or smash a whole side off.

They'll flex a bit with crushing, although some of the shells wont flex far before cracking and failing.
