the new r1 is a waste IMO. I will wait another couple years till they really mix it up and do something awesome.
Till then Ill keep my money in the bank.

I hope that they do a "stealth" one. Black everything. No gold wheels, no gold forks, no coloured decals. Just black with gray decals.

Red Baron had one, only one I have seen so far, when I was in there last month. It looked fantastic. Only looking to buy next year, but if I can't find one from factory, will definitely be interested mate.

Well I just took the current big bang R1 for a test ride and have to say that I am really impressed with it. Yes, stock exhausts look horrendous, but that is why they give you free GYTR pipes...add a tail tidy with integrated indicators and problem is sorted. The motor on that thing is very impressive, the torque is fantastic and the exhaust note is super sexy, even with stock cans. It felt reasonably light to throw around and sure footed (but then...what modern litre bikes don't...) One thing I don't understand is why they didn't get rid of the stalk type indicators and just run with units that are integrated into the fairing?
Will ride the new ZX10r and the current CBR1000rr Have already taken a mates out for a burn) to compare, but pretty sold on the R1.

If you like the sound with the std pipes, you'll love it with the GYTR pipes, crackles and backfires, sounds great. Just couldn't afford the coin.:(

It's still not as sexy as a Gixxer though.

I dunno about that...I loved the Gixxer and like the new GSXR1000's...but I think the Yammie is a winner. Perhaps it's the motor that gives it the extra points.

Agreed, cos the rest of it (from certain angles) looks very much like a clubbed foot ortho boot.

So you've ridden it, and think it has a better motor than the Gixxer?
It's HORRIBLE! In the full song mode it's over responsive to the throttle and snatchy as fuck, just ask all the mo fo's about how well they highside. Why do you think they added traction control?
And it sounds like it's got a miss with the standard pipes, and needs a full system not just the cans replaced to fix it.

Give whitetrash a pm/ring.... number one for customer service for Yamaha in nz...he a bit modest...but will sort any issues...find you sound tracks with gte what ever pipes to listen too...included what ever in the deal..and you won't go wrong...he had a public face on kb.

I beg To differ, Waik Yamaha here in Hamilton have a 2010 R1 with GYTRs on it and it goes and sounds awesome. My only complaints were the suspension was set up too firm(I'm sub 70 kg) and the brakes lacked feel.
If you are down this way give them a yell, I love my exup R1.:niceone:

You need the wax cleared from your ears fella...the exhaust note (admittedly with aftermarket cans...) is eargasmic...:devil2:
I did notice the snatchy throttle, but to be honest, you learn to ride with what you have. Each different bike has its unique characteristics. In all honesty, the bike that surprised me the most was the new (well not so new anymore) CBR 1000. It really is a point and shoot machine. You can just get on and ride...everything feels so smooth and sleek, and it would be my second choice after the R1. The ONLY thing that wins it for me is the sound of the cross plane motor and the torque it gives.
Haven't ridden '11 gixxer yet.

Have a Grey 2012 R1 in our showroom & a limited edition still in the crate, if you want to make the crossplane crank R1 sound good put on Akrapovic's & take out the inserts - sounds awsome. yes they need traction control as that motor is great, suspension is a bit on the firm side. took our ex demo home earlier in the year & left it in full power mode was better than the lower power modes. we wont be having a R1 demo in the near future as our last 2 (Rossi replica included) were written off on test rides. someone mentioned brakes were a bit soft - just squeeze the lever a bit harder they are very strong
By the way I am in Aussie

Shootouts are ok for a bit of info but the trouble is they are subjectively just comparing std machines and usually the u.s models are are bit more restricted as well.
The best way to choose one bike over another is too ask yourself what you might use it for and if that is more race track biased look at how the superstock machines are performing in the ama, bsb, asbk and formula xteme series etc, but even then sometimes results are gained on higher levels of manufacturer/distributor support
If its more road biased simply go out and ride some test units and decide for yourself..:second:
