Hi all,
Had enough of the old Hogly tractor, EQC have not come to the party for my missing $$$$ so it's time to sell up and replace with a sportbike again.
Used to ride GSXR 750R any pointers for a suitable replacement????
Want to pay up to about $10,000

Get a dual purpose bike and explore NZ without the need of a chiropractor!

mate, go ride some bikes. If its been ten years, youll find alot has changed, with circa 170hp at the rear wheel, youd best do some test riding before buying something that makes your family cry.
No point asking 'what do I get', cos we aint got a fucking clue about your height, weight, riding style, limit of your ability etc etc. go try a bunch of things and narrow it dwon, come back when you have narrowed it to three or four options!!!

Go speak to the salespeople and take options for a ride. They are desperate for sales given the economy anyway.
If you haven't been in the game for a while, I'd stay away from the 1000cc sportsbikes until you have some experience in that riding style. You really cannot imagine how fast they will accelerate after being on a Harley. You'd be able to get 2nd hand ones, later than 2000, FI, for 10k, so they're cheap and incredible HP pushing 150-200hp.
Consider some nakeds, they have a better riding position, and they really don't give much away to the sportsbikes in power. Mid sized can be really nice, things like the CB600 for example, really peppy and light, easy to ride etc.
Nothing stopping you from a different cruiser either, unless you're over them.
In short, asking what you should get... well, only one mate in a whole pile has the same bike as me, there are so many options available.
I shortlist bikes also on dealer. If a brand doesn't have a dealer I'd work with, then I don't consider the brand, as I do a lot of km and the after sale relationship is far bigger than just buying a bike.

Sounds like a good excuse to go and ride a lot of bikes to me! Get the sales people excited! Try the whole spectrum of styles - get a feel for the ride arrangement and the changes in bike technology.
Good to see you are open to change, there is a whole lot of new ideas and concepts to wrap your thinking around (and anything that challenges our way of thinking is always a good thing!)
Now get out there and start test riding some bikes! :niceone:

Hi all,
Had enough of the old Hogly tractor
One finally wised up and jumped the fence.
Good on you brother. Now enjoy the speed, handling and braking of some fine sports bikes around

Cheers guys will do some test rides soon.
Might go see Phil Garrett and Avon city as bike shops are a bit limited here now that Sportzone and Just Motorcycles have gone under from the quakes.
EQC are still a bunch of wankers too....
$20000 in my garage is just a bit silly at the moment so a sport bike is the way to go for me for sure plus leaves enough $$$$ for my kids to have a decent holiday.

It's not easy to answer your question for you because only you know what you need. With that malarkey out of the way, I think this sort of bike might be right up your alley- it's affordable, reliable, can take two comfortably enough, is quite sporty and yet still has the V Twin goodness you know and love. It's the porridge that's Just Right (I used to have one of these, myself). May I suggest:
