Throwing out a recommendation: Duvauchelle next ride? Entire Barry's Bay has been ripped up apart but I'm sure you adventure riders won't mind.

ha ha, yes if it wasn't for the associated speed restrictions I'd love the major road works which turn a sealed road back in to gravel.

Went through there on Saturday, was a bit knarly having so much loose chip in the bends on road tyres. They were also messing up the road just before little river.

Anyway, was ready to type a "shame about the weather" post, but it seems that we are in for a fine day tomorrow after all.

You realise Mr Xnet that if we get significant (now there is a bigger word than jam or cat) precipitation tonight it WILL be your fault :dodge:  :killingme:killingme

Anyway there are some suggesting Duvauchelles tonight. I think I may have steak, eggs n chips ala Rittle Liver, perhaps after a look at Barrys Bay.

Thru there this arvo , not too bad newish gravel tarred in just needs sweeping,

Still doing allandale should be at the Wheatsheaf pub by tomorrow sometime, lots of loose crap,

Small piece just in Little River no probs,

Patchwork this side going up to hill top , well posted, stop/go signs some minor loose stuff but not bad.

Hey kids, here's a video from a couple of weeks ago. I got to ride another amazing Moto Guzzi, this time a Stelvio 1200! I was grinning all the way home afterwards :D

A huge thanks to Mr Stelvio for the trust, I'm now even more hooked on Guzzis than before!

Senile indeed. Are bikes with Rider Aids for Africa classed as women's bikes?? Cos there's one or two of those that come along too lol :dodge:

PS not all bikes that come along are big bikes, there is another GB400 that is there sometimes, and when the weather improves more learners seem to turn up.

Hi Skipppy welcome to our forum.

Wot they said!!! Any time you wish to leave the ride just tell someone it is not a problem as long as we know.

Welcome Samewan :-) Generally we go on a ride outside the country side. So if you are comfortable riding slightly longer distances (maybe 100kms?) you'll be perfectly fine with us.

Next ride will be to Hurunui so that'll be a perfect easy cruisy ride :sunny:

Excuse here was ass too tired from Blenheim & back over the weekend (did the Lewis, wimped out & didn't do the Buller Gorge but whole area reminds me of Wnaganui river valley anyway :wait: )

At least things seem a bit better breakdown wise - last big trip was to Geraldine  & the ECU had a fit. Touching lots of wood.

Three of us tootled over to Little River; steak, eggs and chips, were ordered and, well, the others ate theirs, I sort-of inhaled mine.
Nice run across the plains in the dusk to home - explored some new back-roads and stuff, not many intersections, let alone any cornery bits, but.
An altogether pleasant night.

Hare raising ride home tonight, three Hares playing "chicken" between Loburn and home. Collected the last one , luckily (for me) it was deflected by the front wheel and no noticeable damage has been done - will have to check it over tomorrow in the daylight. That and a snowstorm of Moths - the joys of night riding I guess.

Is that a ride with dinner, or dinner and a show...envisioning two egg wheels, a beefy motor, and chip man figure riding... but that's just my warped humour North south or west?:facepalm:
Does anyone feel like another serving of steak eggs and chips next WNR???:D:D Little River Via Dyers Pass, Gebbies Pass and Barries Bay??? Anyway looks like we might have:sunny::sunny:tonight for a change.

Didn't start out great weather wise, we had some light drizzle in the car park, but once we got past Halswell the skies parted and all was good.

We ended up doing Old Tai Tapu Rd out to Little River. Had a nice dinner and back to town via Gebbies Pass.
They have put new asphalt on the 25kph corrugated corners of Dyers Pass.

After tagging on behind the other three at Glentunnel, t'was a bit blustery, the poor wee DR earned it's keep on the Windwhistle straights.
I can recommend The Blue Pubs grilled chicken salad.
And the run back under a clear sky and full moon was magic.

Valkyrie

308734Was a super ride, Loburn-Oxford-Methven. Yes very windy but roads were great and hardly any traffic. Only 3- 4 of us! You lot missed out! One knarly patch of roadworks on Oxford side of Waimakariri gorge, wind had blown all signage and cones over, if it was even there? and we had little warning of deep shingle. Neat to have Shadowjack join us, and we all had yummy meals at the Blue Pub in Methven. Return ride beautiful under clear skies and full moon, wind had died down considerably.
Entire ride a little long for my Mille's tank  I clocked 273km total. I flagged a combine harvester working through the night and they had a mate drop me off a few litres. Not an unpleasant wait under such a sky. Hmmm 20 litre tank... and such problems had been discussed over dinner. Where are the pay-at-pump stations in Canterbury? South Island?
Methven a lovely ride for WNR, refuel before dinner for me!

It was only last week our last WNR as mentioned by Shoshoni.
ADV riders could stick to our winter meeting time/place and use Western Valley going both ways to avoid the flies, we'd get there about the same time as the roadies, if not just before the rush. Only on the Little River trips that is.

When you get to the Hilltop take a moment to consider how low the sun is getting in the sky, it may be worth doing the Summit Rd to Akaroa and then main road back in order to minimise sunstrike on the top. Don't know, the sun may still be high enough not to worry you but worth a thought.

Beautiful riding weather tonight! The light was fabulous, and a nice breeze at Greta Tavern to cool us down. They do a yummy Mud cake! We were given a beautiful dusk sky to ride home towards. Thanks all ☺317665

Nice photos!!
Just in the door - beautiful ride into the West.
Not too bad for wind until I got to Oxford.
Oh, and it reached a toasty 35.4 degrees according to the thermometer at Shadowjack-ville.

Hi guys,

First time Wednesday ride wannabe here.
Looking to tag along tomorrow if its still a goer?

I've had my MT-07 for nearly a year now and have only put 2K on the clock, so time to improve that a little, I think ;)

Great. Has it been decided where we're going, as I'm in Prebbleton.

Couple of years ago we once had like 40 or so riders. We still have 8 or so regulars :sunny:

Great evening thanks everyone. Delicious fish n chips! A few patches of newly sealed road to be wary of, with loose stones atm. There was a well positioned patch of cloud covering the last of the sun, giving us a beautiful dusk sky and no sunstrike, yay.
