I just got my KLR650 rego in Queensland - $AU980 pa and it doesn't cover me for injury - just 3rd party insurance.
You actually still have it real good over there.

Yep lots of NZers get confused over the 3rd party compulsory insurance thing. Here they just mean so the bugger can pay for the damage to your property. They don't realise that that is a fraction of what other countries have to cover with their 3rd party and therefore why insurance is compulsory in those countries. We have the ACC covering the main purpose of the compulsory insurance elsewhere.

The least possible crappy answer to ACC is no ACC levies and pay for it all through petrol pricing. That way everyone would have to pay fairly and not just some very unfairly.

And it gets more expensive the more powerful the bike and younger the rider.

Jeez - my XJR13 is $238 with 3rd party - all 5 of our bikes only come to $1134! - but 3 are going on the vintage register at $30/yr, so that'll be $566 for all 5!
plus the $400 a year each comprehensive fo 2 bikes will make it $1366 a year all up!
There has to be some compensation for living out west.......

I just got the sticker today - double checked - $484.05 for six months. Was included in Bike Price - ride away.
New vehicle, but it doesn't have anything noted for duty or anything itemised - just amount paid.
Comprehensive was $360.00 with Swann.

Not sure about the guy in the bush (who may claim for ACC) but it has possibilities after a few other tax adjustments. I don't think it can support itself entirely using only GST unless it's a huge increase.

Ok so I understand this correctly you pay a one off charge per year for third party insurance that covers what ACC here covers?
Do you have to pay additional costs on every litre of petrol?
If not and you travel a real amount of kilometres then it would be cheap wouldn't it?

i just wont pay,
i feel hard done by with my jeep and two bikes,
i have insurance for each vehicle on top of the regos,
i have my own medical insurance through my employer,
i pay my taxes and acc from my earnings in the middle tax bracket
i pay further taxes/rates for council services which seem to be increasing
im struggling to see the value in what i get in return for my hard earned dollars and
i feel i am paying my fair share like most are
it guts me when i see others not contributing at all but seem to be doing all right for themselves or getting plenty of hand outs
i dont mind contributing within reason because its my obligation as a citizen of this supposed free country
but right now i just wont pay for my bike rego's, fuck it, ticket me, it seems cheaper in the long run
i will ask for 14days compliance from the coppers as they are now advised to give it out at which time i will rego for 3mths then put it back on hold afterward.
sorry for being off topic, and for those that dont agree you dont have too, rant over :whocares:

If that is directed to me - no - Compulsory Third Party Insurance in Aus covers you against injuring someone else. It's included in the Registration of the Vehicle.
Comprehensive Vehicle Insurance covers mine (or any other) vehicles and is arranged privately. There is a cheaper Third Party Property Insurance option as well - but doesn't cover your vehicle or property - just 'theirs'.
Medicare is a separate compulsory levy on income that covers most of one's Public Health costs. Private health insurance is also a very good idea.

ACC only covers personal injury, so damage to objects (even though our bikes are our "baby's") are not covered what so ever. So if you off and damage your bike, a car and yourself - ACC would look to cover you and loss of earnings, third party insurance would look to cover the car hit by you, and unless you have comprehensive insurance of some sort the damage to your bike "baby" would be at your own cost. :corn:

Sorry BD yeah it was I thought I had quoted you.
You answered my question sort of, I get how comprehensive works, it that same as here in NZ, but the compulsory third party part I was unsure of, now if I have this right it only covers you for liability for medical costs related to an injury you might cause to another person, I am guessing it is a form of public liability insurance against you getting sued for medical and related costs.
I guess you have to carry your own medical insurance in case of accident? Or is there a form on ACC that will cover you should you have a bin due to roo attack, loose rubbish on the road, or avoiding the idiot on the wrong side who drives on without seeing you?
And again is there an additional levy on fuel to cover any form of insurance or compensation scheme.
Perhaps you can explain it over a beer at the Burt.

Nah, you're having me on. Maybe at the earlier Woodhouse levy rates it would be a go.
The thing is, I don't actually don't like GST because we get taxed in paye as well as bank accounts so GST is triple dipping.
Paying inflated rego levies doesn't help either that's why I suggested petrol because it addresses all drivers evenly.

I think your forgetting just how much money flows for goods & services each year and it would only be to cover cost NOT the private model they're currently introducing
as for fuel I think your forgetting about hybrid & electrics they would escape thats why I'd shove it on GST also then skateboarders, deadly pedly, snowboarders, skiers, surfers, equestrian (one of the biggest ACC claimers), rugby players etc all pay too, but I'd also remove PAYE I don't like PAYE, why should only people that work & get paid legit get done??? shove it all in GST that way you buy, you pay, its everyone's country everyone should contribute.

But, hybrids need fuel and snowboarders, equestrian eventers etc all drive too. I would reduce GST to under 10% (good election promise) if it was going on to petrol.
I certainly hope privatisaton of ACC doesn't happen and think it's political suicide at present.
People that work and those on benefits all pay tax.
By the way, fully electric cars need approx 130,000 kms to be carbon neutral. That's worse than combustion engines and is one of the reasons why they're a long way to being accepted fully.

hybrids can potentially use less fuel therefore pay less ACC. is that fair? especially since the biggest users are taxi's high mileage taxi's
While they drive why should they get a free ride when it comes to injuring themselves in sport? especially since equestrian is supposed to be one of the biggest expense for ACC & why should I pay ACC on my dirt bike if they aint gonna pay on their horse despite them more likely to injure themselves???
then if ACC was put on fuel I'd probably increase my production of non-petrodiesel so people like me would avoid paying anyways.
Don't forget deadly pedly's either not all them drive & so they use ACC without paying a fair share
ACC on GST everyone pays, regardless of how old you are or what you like to do, you pay!
