I'm having such a good morning I have had this duck in my huge lavender plant sitting in there for months and last Thurdays the chicks have hatched and today I saw them for the first time. There are 3 little ducklings and their mum walking around on my front lawn.

Drinking water and having a swim in a bigger container i've put outside.Shes very protective of them.Apprantly shes been taking them down to the retirment appartments down the drive and swiming in the large pool there.

So who else on KB is having a good morning

Its extra nice because shes from the group of ducks I feed 3 females and one male which was beautiful emrald green head with a white coloured ring on it.It was just so bizzare 2 months ago I was feeding her and she walked behind my huge plant which was next to the garage there was a nest in there with 5 eggs.

But you can't go near it cause she would reject the eggs and leave all you could see what her very slightly.I even asked the morotr mower man to keep away from it.So after those months I have finally got to see her chicks:woohoo:The boy next door has taken some photos of them hes so happy they are here.

heh, sounds like a cute sight. I take it you don't have young kids... my girls would have been waaaaay too interested and the eggs likely wouldn't have made it.

Well it was hard I do admit when I first saw her go around the back of the plant I wondered what an eath she was doing then I saw this nest she'd made and she was sleeping she heard and saw me poped her heard up and hissed.

The 11 yr old boy next door saw the nest and thought it was cool so he made sure nothing went close to the plant either. We couldn't even walk on the path we had to walk on the front lawn around the nest.No I havn't got children I told my neice about it and shes 11yrs old and she was busting to come over and see the nest and duck but she knew not to go near.

At the moment the mum duck is sitting in the garden in the sun and the ducklings are under her wing.I have been just been giving some photos of the ducklings and mum.

The boy next door and I made sure none of the other saw the nest especially the litle girl next door shes about 6yrs we were pretty sure she'd go over and pull the plant apart.

heh, aye mine are 8, 5, 3... the 8 and 3 yr old would be in there like a shot, strong word from me or not (little buggas)... post up the pics coz the girls'll go all cooey and it's kinda sweet when they do.

On the up side, the morning got slightly brighter after yesterdays battery mod on the Prila left the idle oddly high for some reason... I now know why, problem sorted, normal idle, a yee a haaaa.

So far so good for me.....
Helped a Hogget lamb this morning, always extremely satisfying to watch life start in your hands.
Watched a swag of about 20 lambs going really silly as they do, across the paddock & playing King of the Mountain:laugh:
Calves running flat out as they do, going ''Brrrrrr" as they do.....
The mob of yearling cattle, bucking & farting & fighting as they hoon down to the Hay...
The mob of Tui's going nuts in the blossoms....
Aye its a good life, made better by the little things:yes:

Trust me it happened the ducklings are little fluffy and yellow sort of.They are soo cute when the run they sort of wobble and when the walking the grass they sort of walk woddle and fall sometimes. Its so coool to fnally have the ducklings around I just feed them but you have to break the bread up so tiny two just had a huge big jump and had a swim around in the taperware container i've got out side under the tree for them. Then they go and have a sit in the sun:facepalm:

I'm not sure how to post up pictures or videos (HELP PLEASE)

When you post a thread, scroll down a bit to "Manage Attachments". Click thereon. Then click "add files". Select the shots you want and follow the prompts to post the pics. Fairly easy to do - I meantasay, if I can do it then anybody can...

I had a ride in a tow truck! Got a flat tyre in Matakana... happened really fast. So got towed all that way back to Takapuna. Thank god for AA plus cos it would have been a $220 tow otherwise (or I would have been still up there waiting for Mr Hellokitty to get me after speedway practise!)

Looking forward to seeing some piccies of the ducklings Nina!

The mum duck and ducklings have gone now I don't know where either I hope they are back tomorrow mind you she knows she'll get a feed her for her young too.If she doesn't come back the boy next door will be so up set.It will be a bit of a bummer too.

Well everyone i'm having another good morning i've had more little visitors :woohoo: Heard a qwaking outside and there was another mum duck with 7 litlle fluffy yellow ducklings so I am positive it's a different mum. Also another two female ducks came with an older duckling about 1 month old.So they were all having a little swim in the container too.

So slowly i'm runing out of bread spose it would help if I didn't give them the expensive stuff and give them budget bread

Well being a country girl and knowing a bit about livestock, all I can tell you is don't get too attached, Ducks are notoriously BAD mothers, if she manages to keep 5 ducklings alive she will be a legend amongst her peers lol. In the meantime enjoy, they are incredibly cute aren't they.:woohoo:

If you have a look in the second photo you have to en large it there is a big Lavender plant and lots of long grass well thats where she built her nest actually in the plant way at the back next to the garage wall. The nest is still there with another two eggs in it but I don't think they are going to hatch.

Now that is a good start to a morning for you I lived next door to a dog once the dog was behinda really tall fence and when he'd hear the wheels of the bicycle of this little boy he use to ride it down the drive the dog would go nuts in the end he couldn't ride it down the drive. We had to carry it.

So your morning has started of really good:woohoo:

Oh gosh well remember those duckings I told you that were born underneath the plant well yesterday in the morning the mother just flue off and left the 3 ducklings not 5 anymore should of seen then looking in the air runing around chearping out loud for her poor things didn't know what to do.

Next thing they walked down the drive to the pool apprantly they were here today but only 2 ducklings no mother and only eating worms there was bread on the ground for them but the sparrows just ate it all:angry:
