Doing errands today. parked on footpath outside AA (crashe, i got my rego :) ) went around the block and parked just inside the tile lobby area outside the ASB with arty stuff. went into the bank depositied check and came out. but I was clamped!

they are pretty strict there.

oh yeah, I just saw bike and yelled explitives at the situation until a nice but rather burly fellow came out from his vantage point and unlocked it with a warning.

Well done on getting your REGO me lad

Ok thats a first I have heard of a bike being clamped.

I always park out on the footpath near the roadside in the city, never in lobbys/doorways...
Well at least they didnt tow you away or give you a hefty fine....

Wonder how much a fine would be????????

$40 from building management.
yknow the place crashe? we walked right past it last night. just before the end of federal st on the left. I was against the wall and everything.

it was just a green a4 paper too. so I suspect the security gaurd was just waiting for a bike/scooter to come so he could get his jollies/power high or something

They can't clamp you if you park on the pavement itself can they????

I dont THEY could. they only clamped me cos I was on private property (as per the security gaurd) the parking wardens proberly could if they carried them and you were obstructing traffic. more likely they would just ticket you.

I see... I park on the pavements when I am in town as well. I always thought that pavements were council property and only the wardens could give you grief. I don't think I will be parking on Private Property then. :D

I better keep an eye out for those traffic wardens then.... :motu: :motu:

in melbourne during a sunny weekday you'll see at lease a dozen bikes parked in each office building lobby... fancy seeing that in New Zealand

What is particularly vexatious about this is that those lobbies are there only because the Auckland City Council gives the developer a huge kickback in exchange for them (in the form of reduced fees, or exemption from the rules on size etc).

The lobbies are SUPPOSED to be provided as a public benefit. They are purportedly places where the public have free access AS OF RIGHT. Not that anyone would ever know.

Don't the wankers have anything better to do?
they should install more M/C parks.

hah. I was being lazy. there was one across the road. I was only in there for 5mins so I didnt think anything of it.

Ive noticed more and more bikes parking on the viaduct harbour ave but I dont want to park there to come back and find 5 bikes with clamps or tickets on them. so I use the saftey of a parking building while at work :)

This is funny, I was reading the Consumer megazine July 2005 issue number 449.

It says that : Car park owners and towies do not have any right to fine you for illegal parking on private property. No private organisation can issue fines - only the government can (including local and regional councils). Anyone else who tries to issue a fine is probably breaking the law.
