Hi Im keen on getting a bucket for the young ones (17 year old boys) to have a hack and a learn
1/ how to ride
2/ how to ride fast and well on a track

And to also give them a passion and an interest outside Xbox !

Can anyone offer advise on the best bike types to get, what to look out for and what not to get ?

Someone might have one for sale ?

its all on a tight budget so something cheap to get started on is all im wanting, not a championship winning bike lol

cheers

Young ones?? Whatever, you've finally discovered something that isn't too fast for you!!!

Find a dinged up FXR and they'll be at the front of the field in no time.

Street Triple coming up with a $1 reserve?

Failing that, I have a nice green bucket in the shed. Holds about 15 litres. Little bit flimsy for serious teenage carrying but it's yours if you want it bro and meets the budget.

Let me know.........

FXR150's have to be the go .... not so expensive and easyish to get reasonably competitive, anything else has to be much harder or more expensive..

How cheap?

A FXR is the best bike you can get to start on, decent tyres on it and away you go

Easy to upgrade later on with wider wheels, slick tyres, ignitions and engine mods etc

Would highly recommend the FXR. Pretty well bullet proof and an easy way to start.

I would wait for a dollar reserve auction so you can do over the seller.

I know Tigertim20 has my bucket project still, I think.. laying around somewhere
was a CB125 bored out to 140 has been stripped and is almost race ready just needs nyloned, was running last I tinkered with it, it will need a pod filter and maybe a re-jet but thats probably about it, Ill have a chat to him and see what he says if your interested.

Wouldnt be very competitive though I dont think, still needs a bit of work done to it, but as it is it would be race-able

Its not "doing them over", I'ts more likely to be the true market value of them bike.
Still likely to be more than I'd pay for one too!

it will need a pod filter

Na, just make sure the back tyre ain't going to flick shit in the carbs.
Open carbs are fine for the sort of mileage a bucket sees in 3 lifetimes.

where are you going to race ???

come to the next race up this way (Mt Wellington) and someone one will lend you a bike to putter around on after the racing. just ask john about it when you are up this way

and FXR's are the way to go (if it all turns sour they are easy to sell and you dont lose much if anything)

Not at all, I was worried you will get done over by your $1 auction idea.

My next post wil be be "told you so"

By 'done over' you must mean a fair reflection of the market at the time?

Fished out of PD.

Fished out of PD.

Haha! Funny shit! I didn't get the PD bit of course so I was thinking you must have an odd sense of humour for a while!

That is also interesting about how Crasherfromwayback mentions their $1 reserves sell for market value.

Ever considered a career in Real-Estate?

do why ? do you want to buy some land

i started by looking at who was riding what and where they where coming ( cb125twins with tzr frount forks and wheels)
they I got a cb twin for $50 never did anything with it and sold it for $180
after that it was another cb125 twin someone had started work on $400 and tzr frount forks and wheels $150. sold all that for $600 after puttering aroundf the track (2 laps is all it made )

both those 2 bikes are still running and go hard. but someone did a lot of hard work to them

I also got a gp125 and spent 4 years and lots of money on it ( still have that engine the rest is having a cb100 fitted for the son to ride)

this is lots of fun and you will need to get another bike for yourself not just the boys to ride

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-407400486.htm (getting old and long now fxr is better)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/parts-for-sale/other/auction-410501724.htm (talk him into selling the lot and put a lonchin in it)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/parts-for-sale/frames/auction-409322139.htm (this is a start but will cost $$$ finding the rest of it)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/parts-for-sale/other/auction-410382231.htm (realy good start but you may need the frame from above)

GOOD LUCK

Except it isn't eligible as it is 100cc two stroke limit if they are watercooled

The Xbox probably won't get much use once you get the bucket.
