Ok this might be jumping the gun a little... I have had my DB1 since about 1995, and I MIGHT consider selling it if another bike I am looking at comes on the market for sure.

So I am after expressions of interest at this point.

This DB1 needs assembly. Motor mint and ready to run. Frame swing arm and forks have been painted in the correct shade and in 2K two pack... it's like glass.
Bodywork paint is factory and is in need of a re spray.
Motor painted with epoxy satin black.
Bottom end has done 1000km, the engine from the pistons up has done no miles. Chassis has just over 5000km on the clock. Bike has not been used since the early 1990's.
Motor has new pistons and recond heads.
All motor work done by a well known Ducati specialist. Basically brand new original rear shock now fitted that did only 20 miles. Has been registered in NZ before and I have the plate. Currently lapsed, so it needs revinning.

If you have any interest then I suggest you e-mail or call me for all the history and more details. If you e-mail me a land line then I can call you for free.
Inspections welcome.

This is a dream bike and very rare.

There is a brand new DB1 on ebay this week that I have worked out bought in the USA, shipped to NZ, GST paid, vined and registered would be $48000NZ on today's exchange rates.

That's a nice piece of history. Hope it goes to a decent owner. I'd say good luck with the sale, but I doubt you need it.

This morning at 2.45am I had a call from the USA from one of the worlds largest Bimota collectors (who didn't bother to look at the world clock!!) and he is very interested in the bike. Lucky I was still awake. Night owls unite!!

Amazing guy.... ownes every model of Tesi for example... crazy.

Fingers crossed he buys my bike. Unless one of you guys or gilrs wants to keep it in NZ?

Just got this from a trademe user (who didn't leave a phone number)....

"Gday Gavin,I'd like to pay a deposit on this bike and come up in two weeks to collect it and pay the balance. Thanks"

I got back to HIM.... "I have almost commited to selling it to a collector the USA.
He has done everything BUT pay the deposit yet....
Give me a call right away if you are serious."

.....and I left my number...

Depending on him being serious and what he offers but it might stay in NZ after all?????
The plot thickens!!!

I will wait by the phone.

Well that was just in time.

I got the guys first name and town from his trade me profile guessed his last name from his trademe name and googled them... and got his number! Amazing.... you can't HIDE FROM ME PEOPLE! :)

Just talked to him for half an hour and he has told me he is going to buy it.
Deposit paid Monday. And it gets to stay in NZ.
He is out bidding the largest Bimota collector in the world.... classic. Not by much but that and it staying here in NZ swayed me.

Wow he was SOOOOOOOO lucky that the American didn't take my advice and send me a deposit via paypal..... if he had it would have been a done deal. A bike is not "sold" and a deal is not done until money changes hands.

Neat ha?

Later
Gavin :)

Bike sold. Deposit paid. Bike stays in NZ.

The American is not super happy but he didn't send a deposit to hold the bike and someone else offered more without the hassle and cost of crating and sending overseas.... so he misses out. If he had paid even a small deposit I would have gone through with the deal. He wanted a very detailed list of all parts before he paid the deposit as quote "part of our contract" so I could see trouble on the horizon with the deal in general..... just a bid vibe.

I am happy that it seems to be going to a normal NZ motorcyclist who really wants it and not a collector which is cool.

Now.... what IS the bike I am buying? What would cause me to sell my DB1 project after 16 years? I consider it one of the greatest looking bikes in the world, a blue chip classic Italian that can only go up in value over time.....

Well it is Italian as we have established.... not a Laverda and not a 1098/1198....
I have a odd feeling that no one will guess it right. :)

Gavin

Not Laverda, not Ducati, I will be the 4th owner of the bike, so not new.
And yes it is 2 cylinders.
