Confident Rider Course - Auckland Oct-Dec 2011

[Rider Training]

Ridertraining NZ is working with ACC in presenting a 3-hour ‘Confident Rider’ practical course targeting the New, Inexperienced and the Returning Rider. The first half of the course will be practicing basic but essential motorcycling skills in a large safe carpark, with the other half finishing as an onroad coaching session. All types of Motorcycles / Scooters Welcome (scooter must be Class 6 - larger than 50cc).

Please Note: These classes will only consist of 5 riders per session. :scooter:

Session Dates:

Sunday 30th October - SORRY - All booked out
Sunday 13th November - SORRY - All booked out
Sunday 27th November - Only 4 spaces left, book now!
Sunday 11th December - Taking bookings now (great xmas prezzie for someone?)

The course will cost $50 per rider for the 4+ hours. This course has been heavily subsidized by ACC (usually $150).

Suitable for those who are:
- On their Learner or Restricted Motorcycle License
- Have just recently acquired a Full License
- Have just recently returned to Motorcycling after a long absence from riding

What we will cover:
- Safety Check of your Motorcycle and Riding gear
- Slow Speed Handling Skills
- Countersteering
- Emergency Stopping
- Hazard Avoidance
- + Many discussion topics
- Onroad Coaching Session
- Ability to pick the Instructors brain for info :blink:

What we need from you:
- You must have your own bike suitable to your license requirements (including L plate for Learners)
- Your bike MUST have a current WOF and Registration.
- You must feel comfortable to ride @ 70kph+
- Rider must have basic gear: Helmet, Gloves, Jacket, Pants and Boots. Cordura and Kevlar Jeans are ok. If you are not sure if your gear is up to scratch please ask us first.
- Bring a drink and a bite to eat as no lunch is provided but we may find a nice café at the end of the ride!

If there is severe weather, the course will be postponed to the follow Sunday. If there is light rain, then you will learn more about safe riding in poorer weather conditions.

More focused towards the Novice and Returning Rider but you may find some skills in there that may be helpful to you. There is nothing to stop you from attending if you so wish :)

i had good day today, and enjoyed the slow handling course quite a bit, even if i am unable to ride towards a human being waving left/right :facepalm:.
the ride following through the lovely NZ country side was good, and what was trained on the carpark was easily applied. The constant feedback was really helpful.

i would not mind to do a regular training thingie with you guys, but I can't really join NASS, as I am already going to SASS.:shutup:

can only recommend the course, and might go for a second one. (i really liked the slow handling course, tis was fun!)

We will be looking at improving on:

Focusing on getting more hands-on time conducting slow speed manuevours and will officially extended the course to 4 hours as we believe we just cant do it all in 3!

Good course today. I was a little late due to unforeseen issues. :facepalm:

But always good to learn more!!

2 times today I almost had an off. Neither on the course.

First one on the way. A 4wd stopped in the fast lane with me and other cars following. I managed to stop and get past while cars slid all over the place.

The second happened after the course. I was going over Peak Rd and a Chevy Impala decided it didnt need to stop for a one way bridge. I managed to stop and get out of its way.

Guess the training in these courses works. :Punk:

A huge thanks to Steve and Dawn at Rider Training.

I did my BHS with them and I think they got me on the right path from day one. I also did 2 of their Confident rider courses. These picked up on things I was doing wrong and corrected them. To date I have not crashed, fallen over or had any real scares and I put that down to the training I have received. I’ve ridden about 25000ks now.

I breezed through my Restricted and Full tests. I would recommend them to anybody and they are amazing value.
