Can anyone recommend the best way to get out there from Melbs on Sunday.
Hire car or bus ?

I've heard the traffic jams will be/are horrendus.
I've been given a couple of 'Premium Moto GP Guest' tickets and a car pass by a friend on the HRC team that apparently allow us to go anywhere on the circuit including the pits.
My girl friend has shouted me the trip over to go to the Tutankhamon display and ... gulp ... go shopping ... so I can only get out to the Island for one day.
I'm almost tempted just to go on Saturday to avoid the traffic but it seems dumb to miss the race day.
Thanks
Ed

With that pass you lucky bugger, rental car has to be the best option. Leave early as you can to get out there. Traffic is only a drama if you sleep in.Try skipping the dead Egyptian and get out there saturday too. She will forgive you,,,eventually.

You Jammy bastard!

Getting out there is not the problem, getting out of there is tho.
I reckon you would be better off taking one of the early GP busses from central Melbourne, they put them on all weekend.

Fly. We chartered a plane a coupla years ago...cost us $300.00ea. It lands on a wee gravel strip right next to the track. Rockstars.

Ahhmm .... without the free trip and tickets I wouldn't be going at all.
That, unfortunately, say's it all for my economic status in recent times.

I'm pretty fuckin far from a 'rock star' bro :(

But yeah, lucky to get those tickets. My friend (probably shouldn't post his name) lives close by when he's home, is on Dani's team and has worked for HRC since Doohan's days.

Definitly thinking a bus might be the go. Easy to vege out and snooze rather than deal with the traffic ... maybe.

A bus is all good too mate. I went by bus every day a few years ago when I went with Suzuki NZ.

Lucky bu&&er....
Either bus or car is good.

If wet like last year, your car will be parked 5km from the track on the Sunday due to mud in the car park... Yup, the RWC people stuck on the train made me laugh!!!
In saying that, it is very un-Kiwi to sleep in, your body clock has a 2 hour advantage over the locals anyway.

But for ease of it, and to save speeding tickets take a bus.
The police over there are VERY strict, and the speed limit changes randomaly all over the island on the way out.

Enjoy your trip... Take a camera with HEAPS of memory.

I cant beleive you have those tickets and are going f---n shoping. Give them to a true fan ie ME  Saturday afternoon is the best basically the last 15mins of Q may not be the same now without the Q tyres but all the same just give them to me and you can watch it on telly while your at the mall with your missis.
I still cant beleive it:facepalm:

You have a car pass.
Get a rental for the day.
Leave early, aiming to get to the circuit around 8am. Drive straight into the circuit, under the track through the tunnel, park where directed, leave your gear in the car, throw on your pass and start lording it about.
Go and see the Biddles too!!
Leaving the circuit on Sat arvo/evening is no problem, but it is a bit of a pain on Sunday, but not totally horrendous.
Easy.
Remember, PI is not a European meet, the crowds are nothing like over there and it is much lower key.

Yeah yeah whatever ... I'm a fan and I'm going ..... just not for the 3 days and tbh I'm ok with that.
Life's about compromising ... well it is if you're not a totally selfish prick. I've learnt that the hard way and a shit load of racers (mainly ex racers now) know exactly what I mean.
Definitly won't be in the malls tho bro ... luckily she hates them too.

Yeah, but that is nothing compared to trying to get out of a circuit in Europe. When I tried to get away from Estoril in '06 it took hours to go 2 km!
But if you hang around a while afterwards and soak up the post race atmosphere in the paddock, give the Biddles a hand to pack up etc etc etc, the traffic will have thinned out a bit.
A lot of the people camping actually stay until Monday morning before taking off.

I'm going to book a bus ride from Melb on Sunday morning departing 6.45 and leave PI at 5.30pm. They're advertised as 5 star so I reckon they'll be ok to vege out in.
Can't wait.

My wife surprised me with two vip tickets last year and we found after all you can eat and drink for free a bus was the best option which we boarded right out side the gates and took us to the 5 star hotel. Then I was surprised again with the credit card bill over $5000 :shit: Also surprised the second ticket was that she was coming  Well 5k would have been nice to spend on the bike and spend 3 days on the track instead of watching others have fun. You can see some photos on my profile of the weekend. You'll love it Bus is the best idea!!!!248427
