So how long have these new "supermarket receipt" style infringement notices been around?
After getting pinged today for $120/20 demerits, I checked the back of the ticket looking for my 4c fuel voucher. Nothing........not a sausage?:shit:
Needless to say, I'm feeling a little ripped right now.:baby:

One of our workers got one a few months back and was given compliance,
When I took it to the police station to get it checked off they didn't know what they were looking at.
They had to find someone who knew what it was, and after half an hour I was finally out of there.

Doesn't suck as much as being told at the roadside I was getting a ticket for doing 113kph (which I was, no argument from me and I take me medicine), and then getting home and reading the ticket to see it said 131kph. Fucking dyslexic as well as geriatric.

They must have. I was stopped the other day coming out of Dairy Flat BP on the northern motorway. Cop had a fancy hand held device that instantly brought up my licence details, bike ownership, demerits, previous addresses etc etc. No ticket printed for me tho it was just a general check. Technology is moving pretty fast, i know in the UK that the police cars have cameras that automatically check your number plate and can instantly see if you have no insurance, licence suspension, no tax, wof etc etc. Coming to NZ maybe??

Da new machines are da dogz bollix.
In terms of improvement, it means you'll be able to read your copy, instead of having to decipher it. Less mistakes will be made, though even this machine can't eliminate all mistakes. I put a wrong code in yesterday, and printed a seatbelt ticket for someone who had used a cellphone while driving. As it happens, easily fixed, so it was.
The big advantage for the dept is that as soon as the Popo has written his notes on the device, it is zapped via the ether to the Infringement Bureau. It's via the Telecom network.
At all times when coverage is available, the Popo can scan the barcode on your licence or vehicle registration label, and will be emailed details of the vehicle licence holder etc. Used to be done over a radio link, and for most part still is. Only the users of the SMART devices use them, around 680 or so are out there.
If the network isn't available, tickets can still be written, but no information transfer takes place. Until the device next connects to a network.
One day cops will attend domestics, burglaries etc and use an iPad or similar to document it. The report will be on the database as soon as he/she clicks AFFIRM. Paperless office? No, of course not, but far less so than now.
Funnily enough, the same old trend has continued. People who wear their seatbelts still don't get seatbelt tickets, cellphone tickets only go to people using cellphones while driving. Speeding tickets only seem to be issued to those exceeding a speed limit. Spooky. I'm wondering if there is a pattern. The only thing that has changed is how the tickets are written.

I've had two pretty sizeable speeding tickets in years gone by that for some reason never made it through "the system" from the officers ticket book. Wether due to illegible handwriting or administrative cock-ups, I appreciated the result in both instances. I suppose the upside with all this new technology is that it's self funding.

Demerits are largely irrelevant as the disqualification needs to be served on you before its valid.
Even if you have 1000 demerits, if you are not served, you drive legally.
And if not served, they go away after two years.
Way better than fines which just get bigger, and fuck up the aussie holiday.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that your demerits now keep adding up and never get wiped unless you serve your 3 months disqualified period, and even then any left over stay on your record.
So if you have a thousand....your fucked!
I'm more fearful of demerits as they can cause me to loose my licence/job.

You drive legally till served. If never served, they go away. Ring them and ask. I wont hang my hat on the two years, maybe its more than that.
On the other hand, they can serve you on the side of the road, and that can be bloody inconvenient. And if you have any credit, the police and NZTA may not know your real address, but Veda do, and they will help out.
Best you dont speed, or follow the police, who always plead not guilty, regardless of the crime. Maybe you win the odd one.

Each set of points have an expiry of two years from the time they are served unless you reach 100 points within the two year period of the first offence.
Then they just stay at whatever total you have over 100 until you serve your disqualification period.
After you've done your time you have to reapply for your licence, you don't have to resit or anything, just the usual eye test and new photo.
Then you pay $66 for your new licence and your good to go
I love it how they make you pay $66 to get a new licence on top of your fines and being disqualified, FUCKING WANKERS!!!!

No not quite right, but bloody close.
If a cop pulls me over, and on ONE infringement notice issues me 5 fines, each of 25 demerits, then only 25 demerits is entered against me. And that 25 demerits has a lifespan of 2 years from the date of the offence.
If 5 cops pull me over, and issue me 5 tickets each of 25 demerits, my total is now 125 demerits.
The demerits are not recorded against me until conviction, usually the day I pay the fine.
But the effective date of the demerit is the date I was ticketed. If I have managed this within TWO years I am now liable to be served with a three month disqualification.
However, they don't stay at 100. The old points "drop off" as they age.
My disqualification still remains in the system, but once I have had two years without getting any more points OR being served then I am in the clear, and cannot be served.
Furthermore, I can drive entirely legally UNTIL served. So my vehicle cant be impounded etc, as long as I don't drive if I am served.

After ringing and asking about the new law change from I think May this year,
I was told that if you reach 100 (lets say you have 120) points recorded against you inside two years, they will never go away unless you serve a 3 month disqualification.
After you've done your time, you are left with 20 demerits which will drop off your licence after 2 years of the initial date of the offence unless you clock up another 80 in that time, then they are locked in place until you loose it again.
It used to be that even if you had 300 points, you'd get them all cleared after your 3 months disqualified period and start from zero. Now you only use up 100 at a time.
And yes it would be better to just not speed at all, that is obvious Scumdog
But some people have problems keeping under the limit, whether it be speed, booze or stating the obvious (aye scumdog)
But this info should be shared with everyone so there are no nasty surprises.

I was told that if you reach 100 (lets say you have 120) points recorded against you inside two years, they will never go away unless you serve a 3 month disqualification.
That kind if fits with how I understand it. I prefer to think of it more along these lines;
The points are valid for 2 years from the date of offence and can be recorded retrospectively, no matter how long you manage to delay process. As soon as you hit 100 live points a notice to suspend your licence is issued - Call it a Bus Pass(tm). These don't go away and stay in the system until you're served whilst the points continue to become inactive as the 2-yearly wheel turns.

I agree 99%. Payment of the fine isn't the only trigger for the recording of Demerits. Simply lodging a notice of fine with the District Court for collection following non-payment to Police is sufficuent for this to happen also.
I think. :shifty:

After ringing and asking about the new law change from I think May this year,
I was told that if you reach 100 (lets say you have 120) points recorded against you inside two years, they will never go away unless you serve a 3 month disqualification.
You don't ever need to actually go licence-less.
If never served, and you don't get any more demerits they fade away....two years clear... spray and walk away...

Each set of points have an expiry of two years from the time they are served unless you reach 100 points within the two year period of the first offence.
Then they just stay at whatever total you have over 100 until you serve your disqualification period.
The good bit is ... with the new laws ... those demerits you have OVER the 100 you "need" to lose your licence with ... you STILL have when you get your licence back ... They are not ALL wiped ...

Why is there a need to allow more than one period of licence suspension to be imposed and to be served consecutively?
Bugger me! You could get disqualified for eons if you rack up enough points!

Yep, and then once you've done your time, you have to front up with more cash to get your licence back. Even after only 3 months loss of licence.
Do the crime, pay the price........twice!

What am i missing here?
How does one not get served- by moving around & living under a bridge? handing over your twin brother/sisters licence every time you get pulled over?
Obviously not speeding:shifty:
Also to clarify - If I have 120 points & don't get served, then after 2 years from the latest infringement ALL my points would be wiped or would the 100 points still be sitting there waiting for me to hand over my licence for 3 months...

I believe the points have since expired but the notice to suspend your licence is still active, similar to a Warrant to Sieze or Arrest.

ONLY 100 points are wiped AFTER your 3 month disqualification ... the rest (any more you may have) you now KEEP ... untill your next 3 month loss ...

You just do what I did when I was young and dumb.
Don't answer the door, eventually they give up coming to your house.
Don't get caught breaking the law, then you can hand it in when YOUR ready.
back in the day I avoided it for three years, and in that time racked up 380 points.
when I finally decided to get my shit together i done the three months DQ and all my points were wiped :Punk:
Let the flaming begin :whocares:

:laugh:Could be too?
When I spoke to the guy on the phone in April, he gave me the exact date my 35 demerits were wiped. He told me then that they are wiped individually, 2 years from the date of the offence.
Read the Act concerned ... Thats for a SINGLE offence ... Only
2 or more offences ... and it's the date from the commision of the most recent offence ...
Scroll down to section 91 (1)
And it lists ANY amendments to the Act at the bottom of the sections (section 88/89/90/91 are interesting too ...)
http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1998/0110/latest/whole.html?search=sw_096be8ed8076bc9e_Expiry+of+de merit+points&p=1#DLM435011
And interestingly ... Section 88 (4) with NO amendments ... states quite clearly ...
Demerit points recorded under subsection (1) have effect on and from ... the date of the commission of the offence for which the points are recorded

Yes, if you managed two years without either being served with the disqualification, or amassing any more demerits, you are in the clear.
Its not a mistake by the powers that be though.
If you have managed to get 100 points in two years, and then you manage to change your driving style so dramatically that you don't even get pulled over for the next two, the demerits have changed your attitude.
And thats what they are supposed to do.

You're in no mans land Scummie. The Southern HP guys got them months ago, we got ours yesterday. No big deal really. They speed up the processing, but they take time to get used to.
I like them best coz I can actually read the writing on them, as opposed to the latin scrawlings of a couple of my staff.
Ka kite
and the worst thing - the prolific writers are usually have the worst chicken scratch.
