Yet another "first bike" thread

ok, i know there has been heaps of post about this (from what i can see) but most are old now.
i am looking for my first bike to learn on/do my basic handling test on
looking at around 2k.. that's just for the bike i have the gear lined up already would this be possible? i live in wanganui so manawatu area is good.. seen a few in chch :(
(someone once said looking for a new bike is half the fun.. lol yea right not if you live in wanganui...)

That really depends on you, your abilities and how the bike that you choose suits your style. The key is to "try on" as many different bikes as you can. A lot of people reccomend the trusty old Suzuki GN250 for learning and just as many reccomend avoiding the 2-stroke race replicas for such purpose. You're the one behind the handlebars though, so take your time.

If you've been on dirt bikes a while, why not a road-legal trailie?

I got asked by someone whether i want to learn on a bike that is cruisy and you dont have to change gears alot, Or a bike that is peaky where all you are doing is changing gears...

I went for the more cruising way and pick my current bike. Bought it for 2500 and then 300 to ship down from Auckland.

would not mind a cruisy bike for my first. in the middle about changing gears i do mind either way. guess i'm looking for either a Cruiser or sports style. just one that might be easier to learn on then others. thanks

Look at honda's CB250rs or CBX250rs....They are getting harder too find,my old CB250rs sold for $1700 last month 300 more than I sold it for a year ago and 1500 more than I paid more than I paid for it......
They are easy bikes too learn on and very nimble as a commuter,reliable and easy to maintain

the yamaha scropio's are silimar styling

You say you have a DR200 does it go???have you considered making it road legal??

Scorpios are excellent first bikes. (not that i'm biased or anything)
As long as you can check the service history etc you should be fine.

As for price, anywhere $2-3k depending on condition, distance travelled and how much the owner thinks they can get for it.

The one you have linked looks alright, maybe a friendly KBer down that way wouldn't mind having a looksee at it for you?
