Hey KB
I'm always on the lookout for new roads around the Nelson area to ride in, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any good twistys here?
(Btw, move my thread if it's in the wrong subforum please; I don't know where else to put a request like this...)
I'd love to get out and have some more practice with sharper turns, but most of the places I've found so far are very dense housing areas, and I don't want to annoy the people living there when I ride the same hairpin 10 times.
Another problem is my bike is very shiny and fully faired; I keep worrying that I'm going to slide if the road is gravelly, so the further out of town areas tend to be a little harder for me to relax and practice leaning on.
So, Nelson riders, where do you like to ride?

Sounds like I'm going to Takaka then! Hope to see you guys on the road sometime.
I'd love to do some of the crazy roads in the dense suburban areas, because they have a lot of very quick little turns, but I'm too worried about other vehicles to go quickly... I wish Nelson had a sports bike track.

Yes-im being a little irresponsible in my suggestions-lots of hazards up there=campervans, diesel spills, grit, sheepies-great road but best treated with some respect.

Ok ... I DON'T come from Nelson ...
But get your road map (newer the better) ... cross out the ones with lots of straight bits (most show sealed roads) ... DONE ...
I like Nelson Tophouse St Arnaud Murch. (for coffee) and back to Nelson.
OR ... loop the other way back from St Arnaud through Renwick (Picton/Havelock ???)

Nelson to Greymouth and back via buller gorge and coast road. Magic.
Takaka hill and Whangamoas are great to, but very gritty. Try to stay on line.

As others have said - nelson to top of the wangamoas or rai valley <--- my fav
Upper Moutere...
Takaka hill is great too, but there might still be a bit of gravel this time of year - keep on the lookout

I've done Takaka Hill now, that was a LOT of fun, very twisty. Wasn't much gravel on the road. Cost me a tank of gas though, and I'm way too poor to afford another go D: but I think in a few weeks I might try Nelson to Rai Valley.

Nelson, Head towards Mot. Appleby straight, Left into Motere inland highway, over saddle, right into Nuttal road, Along Nuttal to the end & right into Gardner. Across the motorway & onto Seaton valley rd.. Onto the Mapua rd - 70kph zone watch out for cops-before Ruby bay left onto Pomona rd- WARNING- some FRICKING TIGHT HAIRPINS - THEY TIGHTN UP ON YOU - GO THRU THE ONES YOU CAN'T SEE SLOWLY- to the end & along Marriages Rd to the new highway, left & quick right onto Harley Rd which takes you back to the inland moutere highway.
Bring up Google maps & you'll see it.
There are cops everywhere so don't speed & ride within your limits.
From the Brightwater turnoff along Mt Heslington Rd is a good one to practise your cornering on level terrain - watch for horses & horseshit.
Go easy my friend

Thanks, that road looks awesome. I'll be sure to try it out sometime in the coming weeks, provided I can remember all of that...
