Yeah I thought that may have been the case but you can actually see when the helmet is rolling along the the D buckle is done up and the helmet strap is flapping so clearly the strap has broken at the fastening point.

I dont have a problem with the reply of incidents, it answers questions in peoples minds and helps people understand what happened. I personally dont find it disrespectful in anyway. Sometimes there could even be something to learn on watching the footage. I would never have thought my bike could spear off if im trying to pick it up off my elbow but if the wheel is turned toward the track and you do manage to regain some traction then you have the potential to swerve back into the path of the other riders. This will always be in my subconscious and its surprising how quick your mind works in these situations for you to remember
I can understand why some people dont like it replayed but you have the choice to look away. (if your quick in this case)

Yeah. If that sight didn't make you sick to the stomach there's something wrong with you. I saw some horrendous pics on the ESPN site (I think it was). I'm no ghoul, but I do always try and find out how/why these tragic things happen. Having seen those haunting pictures, I can only say I think the poor guy hopefully didn't suffer much.
I really hope Edwards and Rossi don't beat themselves up too badly, as it really was just one of those horrible freak things. One of the pics clearly shows Rossi's Ducati running over the head of his dear friend. I honestly hope he never sees that. He doesn't deserve to feel bad...he was certainly faultless. A cruel twist, being so close to Simoncelli.
I would fully understand if Rossi now called it a day. He's done more than enough to earn a rest!

Yeah, I too, wonder how this will affect some of the riders. Rossi, Edwards even Stoner, you couldnt blame them for wanting to chuck it in.
Stoner, with a baby due, has already given hints that he won't stay in the sport long enough to chase Doohan's 5 titles etc.
And thoughts too for Fausto Gresini who ran Marco, don't forget this was the same team that lost Dajirio Kato .... :crybaby:

I agree that it is a no fault thing. I haven't seen the photos and I ain't going looking. I have watched the video though including the one where you see Marco lose the front. Edwards saw him, his bike bobbled but he had no where to go, nothing he could do. Rossi I think was unsighted. It could easily have been much worse. I can't see Rossi giving up. Edwards though?

Rossi has looked of late like a man that's had enough anyway. And with the Ducati being as much of a pile as it is, now this? Even if he does keep going...will his heart really still be in it? It's often when your heart's not really in it anymore that you seem to get hurt. After all of the great things Rossi has done in his time, I'd hate to see him badly hurt when he has absolutely nothing more to prove.

a MASSIVE loss to the motorcycling world.
He got a lot of shit for crashing out heaps, but thats because he was pushing himself further than anyone else, had a massive desire to improve and acheive, and because of this he was one of, if not THE most exciting racers to watch on by far one of my favourites.
Someone I think was destined to win the championship in the next 5 years.
A horrible way to go, I just pray that he never regained consciousness, and that he passed away with his last conscious thought being the excitement of racing an awesome machine with his knee on the ground, battling with the best in the world.
A chilling reminder of the risks these brave, insane, mad cunts take to go out there, push themselves, and put on a show for our entertainment.

I had forgotten that it was the Gresini team that lost Daijiro-kun as well.
That is some pretty bitter pill to be swallowing. It must make Fausto have a look at his own life too I would think.
I think (well, more like hope in a way) Rossi has had enough too, I would have.
He has nothing left to prove to anyone, let alone the memory of his mate.
Pushing that bike too far might hurt him too.
An accident like this almost took Frano Uncini and caused Wayne Gardner to quit when Gardner hit Uncini knocking his helmet off.

Gardner said in his latest article
"myself simply want to extend our deepest condolences and thoughts to Marco’s family, friends, and team. I also want to extend my sincerest sympathies to Colin and Valentino. They will be absolutely gutted and racked with a huge amount of guilt. Having been involved in a similar incident with Franco Uncini many, many yeas ago, I have a pretty good idea about how they’ll be feeling. But it simply wasn’t their fault. There’s nothing they could have done. Both will be replaying the event in their mind over and over again, wondering if they could have veered to the left, the right, braked harder. But while a small consolation, the TV footage of the accident - now and in the years to come - will show them they had absolutely no time to avoid the collision. It was, sadly, just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

And maybe Colin too, might think its time to go back to the ranch. He must be near the end of his career. here's another injury, and someone died.
There is footage from a following bike showing what happened on youtube. I dont understand the "I wont watch it" response. I need to see how it all went so horribly wrong. Its a terrible tragedy .

Yeah I've watched and seen dozens of clips and pictures. It's the most bizzare crash I think I've been unlucky enough to ever see. It backs up my long held belief, that when you're number is up, it's up. Poor Simoncelli could bin it at the same corner another 300 times and not be that unlucky ever again. Simply being dragged back into the racing line while your butt and hip are on the deck...with your head so low it's able to be run over, is seriously unlucky to put it mildly.

And they probably equally don't understand the 'I want to watch it' response.
For my part, I've watched it, but it's entirely up to others whether they want to or not.

I did not choose to because it kills me to watch the moments of someone's death
I can understand some people's interest in what the hell went wrong
But I feel pretty strongly about having it forced on me, I think media and some people are getting more and more morbid and desensitized to tragedy.
All I wanted was to avoid photos and footage but unfortunately was shown his limp body before I could Look away, on a midday news show
Im sure many think I'm way too soft and affected too easily but to be honest I'd rather be that than the alternative
(though who knows maybe a few years of being an ED doctor may harden me)

Yeah...the crash is that ugly and sad...I'm surprised they didn't have to warn viewers first.

Not that uncommon, did it on an FXR 150 bucket last year, but no one behind me.
Watched Simoncelli take 2nd behind Stoner at Phillip Island last weekend, hard to believe he is gone.
Never subscribed to the "give up bikes or racing because someone has died" theory myself.

Looks like you nodded off whilst waiting for it to finish the straight and tipped over! I had the same problem when racing 883's!:innocent:
You may not. But without wishing to sound rude, you haven't won 9 world titles and just now run over one of your very good friends head possibly (even though it was obviously not his fault) inflicting the fatal injuries he received.
But Rossi is obviously a very strong character and I do think he'll start next season as planned. I simply wouldn't be that surprised if he's had enough before too long.

Well I'm not going to either!!!!
If anything I reckon simoncelli was an inspiration to racers, he may have been loose times but you could never question his drive and desire!
I'm not sure what I would do if I was Rossi, though, I feel for him very much, having a part in the death of your friend. I hope he gets through ok and carries on

An accident like this almost took Frano Uncini and caused Wayne Gardner to quit when Gardner hit Uncini knocking his helmet off.
I think it was '86 or '85. Luckily Uncini survived.
Shit............
Yerr that was at the beginning of Gardeners 500 career,He may have taken a break,But continued on for many years after that.

I'm not religious, but this article I believe is very well written and offers comforting reminder to us when such tragedies happen. IMO, the last two paragraphs are spot on.

Just got back from holiday after going to Sepang. After just watching recordered race footage, it did not show fans reaction to race cancellation. We were sitting opposite pit garages and when race was called off, fans started hurling bottles and rubbish on to track. We had no public annowncement for 45 mins, we new there had been a bad crash, but to be told nothing was frustrating. A sad end to a great day, as well as the worst traffic snarl up ever experienced, 3 1/2 hours to get back to KL.

Well there was nothing they could say really. They cant say sorry do to Marcos death we have cancelled the race now can they.
The footage clearly showed what was a tragic accident. Shame on the crowd I say

Just telling you how it was being there mate. We were sitting mid starting grid and could'nt see big screen properly. To be told nothing was the problem. If crowd had been told that all medical staff were treating injured riders and race could'nt proceed, then i'm sure the fans would have understood. If you listened to the commentary team who could see the fans reaction, they even said they wished someone would tell them what was going on.

Obviously you have all the information.
I was there too and had no idea at all what was going on. At about 1645 we got the message that the race had been cancelled through txt from someone sitting by us and we saw on the big screen some guy walking around pits moving his hands which seemed to confirm that the race had indeed been cancelled. We were unsighted from the crash site and had no idea it was so serious. We were never told that Marco was in serious condition and even 45 minutes later when some guys on the bus back told us he died we still didn't believe it. Not until we saw it on the net. The track speakers didn't go to every grandstand and the ones that did were difficult to hear. It was indicative of the organisation over the whole weekend. Dropping Marco and no flags for Marquez, Smith and Cluzel on first lap of Moto2 FP1 were the other two fairly major stuff ups by the organisers. The average Joe malaysian spent a fair wack of their weekly wage to go and see some racing. They didn't get to see it and weren't told why. I am sure when they found out about the death they would have understood more.

I understand that no one was told anything but do you really think they would cancel something that big for no reason?
Not you, but every person that boo-ed and threw shit on the track
1. They were acting like children
and
2. Couldn't use their brains for longer than 2 seconds to realise, hey something must have gone bad for them to do this
I'm not saying they way they ran things was in any way good, in fact it was done pretty poorly (communication and flagging)
Though while the marshals should have, and I hope they do, good training in this sort of thing - you cannot blame them. I know this seems like a pattern, given what happened with Tomizawa, but things happen and it is not good at all but you cannot blame them, it could have happened to anyone - the very best and most trained in this field
Emergency medicine is full of wonderful hindsight.

When we left the track my mate and I thought the only possibility was that there was oil on the track and that with the fading light the race wouldn't be able to be started before the daylight faded, 100% honest. We had no idea of the real situation, and we are reasonably knowledgeable enthusiasts. The average local at the circuit from what I could see only knew three names, Stoner, Rossi and Khairuddin (Malay 125 racer).
I didn't know people started throwing stuff on the track, yes that is unacceptable. By that time we were probably on the air conned bus back to the CBD.
I think you just have to give the Malaysians the benefit of the doubt. They don't have the knowledge of how the motogp show actually works to have comprehended the enormity of the situation. I believe their actions were out of ignorance and not malice or disrespect. In our eyes certainly unacceptable and I doubt very much the same would have happened at any of the european rounds.
