Okay, well I convinced myself a while back to get a adventure bike and after a bit of research decided on a KLR 650. Had a test ride of one today and that confirmed it. Was allot of fun and not at all what I expected (I thought it would be too tall and vibrate like hell).

Anyway, the one I looked at wasn't in the best condition for its price so I'm on the hunt for a mid 2000's bike, I think this would be around my budget.

I've trawled TradeMe but there's nothing suitable at the moment.

Upper north island is better so I can try before I buy but might consider further away if the deal is right.

:2thumbsup

You'll be in for a long wait for anything a great deal cheaper, the good old KLR's hold there value pretty good ( I should know, I have 2 of them ( both 2007 models )

Please buy it. It has been listed for so long the poor bugger who toured NZ on it must be looking at a pension by now. Doesn't appear to be poked, just out of the way in Paihia.

Hey Stu, thanks for the links.

The first one is the bike I looked at yesterday. It had a fair few bashes and scrapes but the biggest thing that put me off was no service history. Drives me nuts that a four year old bike doesn't have a single piece of paper to tell if it's been looked after (or not).

The bike in Hawera looks mint with the right after market bits so I'll keep that one of the watchlist. Pitty it's a bit far from Aucks.

Yeah you're right this has been on TradeMe since Noah invented the ark. It's a US import in 2009 though, according to carjam. Seems a strange bike to import into NZ. And the prices doesn't look OTT so wondering what the story is seen as a few people must have passed it over.

That green one looks the best, all the right stuff on it too, including good tyres. $6kish buys you a bike that is well set up and ready to rumble. You may find a cheaper one, but this one has a couple of grand worth of good bits on it already.

More inclined to think Paihia is just too far away. All bikes here are imported from somewhere and maybe this guy's mate brought it to do his tour and decided to leave it behind. Paihia to Auckland is a nice ride on a low traffic day

Have a chat with him, you may get a good deal and to be honest, what extras are really needed, these bikes are pretty good out of the box, like most modern bikes.

Just my thoughts.

If I was you I'd buy the one in Paihia (same as mine) but I would swap that ugly old aluminium bash plate for my nice clean (I would clean it for you) stock plastic one - would look heaps betterererer - might even go halfsies on postage :innocent:

And I could take the ugly old alloy one and spends hours trying to make it fit my TDM. :innocent:

Any reason you don't want to chat to this guy?

Looks a good price. Not too keen on the colour but for that price, easily fixed.

Good luck with your search.
