View Full Version : Exhaust gone sideways?

So I removed my rear foot pegs to get them powder coated and on an 03 Zx636 the muffler (Remus) is attached to the peg. Next time I looked at the muffler it was off to the side and down the pipe a bit. I think the springs on the muffler and the pipe had pulled it down. Hopefully the powder coating will be finished soon and I can get it back on. My question is how do I get the muffler back up the pipe?

That's a lot of weight for the pipe to be supporting. Have u been riding around like that?

I took the pegs off then rode it to the powder coating shop then rode it back. I did have a bungy cord on it as I thought it might fall off. =/

I guess you'll have to wait for the pegs to come back and then reassess positioning

If it's a "Slip on" ... Loosen both joints ... and revolve the appropriate bits to make it line up as it should ... Tighten all joints/mounts ... DONE ...

 ...

Perhaps ...

If you twist (revolve) the joints ... to their CORRECT ALIGNMENT ... Tighten ALL mounting bolts ... DONE ...

Hahaha Sorry! I didn't know what mean but I had another fiddle and I twisted it up and it looks like its straightened up again which is good. So I guess I'll just wait until The pegs come back. Thanks! =D

The spring stops the the muffler falling off the pipe while allowing some movement. This acts as a stress reliever. You need the footpeg to hold the weight of the muffler cos at the moment, the header pipe is holding weight it's not supposed to. You could end up cracking the headers or even damaging your engine.

Make up a small bracket on the foot-peg mounts ... to bolt the exaust to in the meantime ... untill the footpegs come back ...

All done! It's all nice and straight again. Got the pegs this morning and chucked them back on.
