Just outside Datacom in Abel Smith St. Managed to organise this via the WCC, and they've been extremely helpful.
The park is free, but if you get a ticket from the parking wardens let me know and I'll get it sorted. Ideal for going to Real Groovy, or going to Wellington's best cafe, Fidel's.
Napier needs some motorbike parks. Stupid council suck!!!

Have you asked? I did and found out that the process, whilst long winded, was actually geared toward investigating the requirements of all the surrounding businesses and residents and ended up identifying a need no one knew about. You never know until you try.

Jim, do you want to share the process? I want to try and get a park on Boulcott St, there used to be a spot outside the EDS building until they blocked it off and towed the offending bike, then a couple of days after that happened, Wilsons decided to increase their bike parking rates from $3 to $5.
Now there are lots of bikes that park on the footpath around this area, I park down on Willis St and have to walk up.
If anyone else parks around Boulcott St, register your support here!

Ring up, they'll tell you where to download the form to fill out, they'll send a Traffic Engineer to evaluate the area and identify a suitable site. They then process the application through a couple committees.
Make sure you offer a strong argument for the necessity of a free park, because they do lose revenue by making them available. However, and probably most importantly, be as obsequious as hell. Tug your forelock, bow, and thank people profusely whilst copying all the interested parties in the emails you'll exchange.
Remember that it will take a lot of time to sort.

There goes another car park
Love finding motorcycle parks but if I can't, just end up parked with the cyclists or very carefully on the footpath.
Chch BushInn mall has got motorcycle parking
It can fit two motorcycles but only in tandem - one behind the other. Well, at least it's a thought.
It's some left over parking space and they must've seen me parking in there frequently, so decided to paint 'Motorcycle' on it  (I've never seen another motorcycle park there).
It's right outside the main entrance doors too
Sadly it also seems to collect shopping trolleys. Love it when I roll up and a person was just about to abandon one there. Quick evils :devil2: and they move onto the real trolley park a handful car parks over yonder.
Chch Riccarton mall has motorcycle parking too. It's under the car park ramp outside Pak n Save, just watch your head
Oh and pray there's enough space between the cages which rightfully have surrounded the motorcycle parking space. Sometimes a twat parks wrongly over our entrance/exit and if there's no gaps, then we've to exit via the cyclist parking - can be very difficult too since there's always one cage which parks too far forward

Jim, I must commend you on this selfless act. You've done something for the greater good of Wellington Motorcyclists without thinking about yourself, to take the time to achieve such a feet as this shows true dedication to motorcycling and the gods will be pleased! This world needs more people like you.
Oh, and by the way...don't you work down that end of town?

That's the spirit. Write your application something like that and you'll make sure there is only motorcycle parking available in Boulcott St.
Yes I do and so does et al, and there is a scooter shop right next door, so I thought it would be reasonably useful.

I have seen this done twice and it worked both times, but in neither case were we trying to be "constructive".
First was in New Plymouth in the 60s, we used to park the bikes between cars then Police and Transport decided they weren't having that and moved us on. The next Friday we all went down town straight from work and as a car left, a bike filled the space. By peak shopping time the whole central block was bikes both sides. No more problems.
Second was in Wellington in that little carpark at the southern end of what is now the IRD building. Back when it was the POHQ some of the staff used to park bikes between the car spaces. One night I went out and the bike had a ticket on it "encroaching on a metered space" I screwed it up an threw it away. Next morning I went to work early and parked in the middle of the space. One other bike had already beaten me to it. By 8:00AM the car park was full, of bikes. No more problems. (Never did hear about the ticket.)
Generally though, if you want someone to do something for you, it will be easier if you are nice to them. Jims "tugging o' the forelock" advice is right on.

I reckon the best thing to do is if you find an empty motorbike park, to try and park slap bang in the middle so that cars can't do that. Really pisses me off too. I guess they're just getting used to it there and may have made a mistake. Maybe.

Good work Jim2.
I have found the Council very responsive and helpful.
We asked for a bollard to be installed at the end of park outside 160 Lambton Quay - cars/vans in the loading zone next to it kept knocking bikes over (read: "concertina effect"). The Council had contacted me within a day of receiving our petition, and the bollard was erected within a matter of days.
